Mets Billy Wagner was upset last night after the loss and told reporters that they should be talking to the guys who actually played in the game...... he then pointed to the lockers of Carlos BeltranLuis Castillo and Carlos Delgado who were in his words as normal not there after a loss.........

One interesting aspect of this is that he was just recently asked to keep comments in the Locker room after he was publicly  critical of Oliver Perez.

OK, so I really don't think race had that much to do with his comments ....... but it is a little strange that in both occations every player he brings up has been hispanic.

Another strange addition to this issue is that he has already denied that race has anything to do with it.......... (I have already said I personally do not think race was the big issue) however it does look like something is not right in that Mets Clubhouse.

Here's the link

Go Yankees.........

Is this an issue.... or is everything just fine ...... how will Carlos Beltran, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Delgado take being called out publicly like this?

I am sure we will hear more about this....... Hurray Subway series

Your Thoughts?

I can't judge if he's a racist because isn't like almost the entire Mets roster hispanic? It's very likely that if he points at someone on his team, it's more often than not going to be someone hispanic. How many non-Hispanics are on the team? Billy Wagner of course, Ryan Church (doing well), Brian Schneider (nice catcher), John Maine (doing okay), and David Wright (team's best player). I'm hispanic and will say that it doesn't look racist because these guys can't be critisized. Also, if he wanted to be racist, he has a good target in the hispanic dancing .250 hitter playing SS for them. As far as I know, he hasn't called him out. If you want to say he's done anything racist, I would only question why hasn't he called out Aaron Heilman, but I think he did earlier or am I wrong?

I think it's getting to the point in this country where if you're a white man you had better just shut up and not say anything to anyone.

Anyone ever consider that maybe he's pointing the guys out because they don't do interviews?

Anyone?

I agree with you PH the practically the whole Mets roster is Latino. That's why they have been nicknamed Los Mets. I don't think Wagner was discriminating against the Latino players it's just the law of averages that if he criticizes members of his team those players will most likely be Latino. Of course, I don't know Wagner personally so I guess it's possible but I truly think he was just frsutrated and he could have easily vented about the white players on his team. The fact is as you stated David Wright, John Maine, Ryan Church and Brian Schnieder have all been pulling their weight for the Mets this year. Guys like Reyes, Beltran and Delgado seem to be going through the motions and not "laying it all on the line" At least that has been my imprression.

If the Mets feel that he's being racist, just send him to the Marlins. We'll take him. Then he can criticize our fans. Oh, but then he'll still be called a racist because most of our (few) fans are hispanic too.

PH,

I understand, and I agree with you that this is probably not a big race issue, if one at all, in fact, that is why I put a question mark in the thread title instead of a period....... I agree that the Mets have a lot of Hispanic players........ and I agree that it seems like they are the players who are "going through the motions at the moment.

The real reason I posted the thread was to assess any potential problems in the Mets clubhouse...... be they race related or just players not getting along. it just never seems good when a player throws his teamates under the bus especially when he does so to the shark in the water media........

Billy Wagner was upset...... I understand why........ but he took it to the media.......

are you at all worried.... or do you think the guys, Carlos Beltran, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Delgado will just ignore it....... you think they will be fine with being called out publicly?

Just wondering. Thanks for your comments.

CB

Maybe if he gave a line like "I'd tell you to talk to those guys, but they aren't here because latinos are too lazy to work" it would be racist, but I get pissed off when co-workers shaft me to deal with their problems too.  If people don't like it, maybe they should attack the lazy jackasses who stick their teammates with interview duty whether they played or not.
