I have been reading reports that the Falcons on obvious passing downs are thinking about deploying either 3 defensive ends like the Giants an putting Michael Boley on the outside and moving Jamaal Anderson on the inside to rush the passer at defensive tackle. Does anyone else think this could be a good idea? My only problem is Jamaal Anderson. I am still not sold on him and I just don't know if he will be a solid defensive end in this league. Do you guys think we have the personel in place to run this kind of defense? I have also heard rumors of us moving to a 3-4 which to me would be a very bad idea. I like the idea of having 3 ends in at once from time to time but without a big anker at defensive tackle to hold the point of attack we would struggle running a 3-4.

I've heard the same reports and I like the idea. To me, with Boley's athleticism, he could match up as an end  and cause problems on the line. I am still holding out hope for Jamaal Anderson though. I give him the benefit of the doubt as last year was his rookie season, At 6' 6" 283 lbs, I think he could move inside and use his speed to his advantage against slower guards and centers. The 3-4 idea, in the context I read it, was going to be an experimental thing that would be employed occasionally to mix up our defense. We have the LB's, but the lack of the all important 0-technique tackle makes this idea a good thought, but one that most likely will not be executed well. The end rotation, I think could quickly increase our pass rush, helping our young corners (i.e. Chevis Jackson, Chris Houston, David Irons) in coverage.

I don't see the Falcons going to a 3-4 defense we don't have the players to do it and the HC knows it.

I am still hoping on Anderson to. Knowing that he didn't really have many people to teach him and motivate him last year. But now he has the experience to do well. I like the 3 man line idea, as long as we have a big man out there.

From what I've heard, the Falcons might play something similar to a 3-4 from time to time (particularly in blitz situations) but it wouldn't be a true 3-4.

The other thing I've heard is that Smith and Van Gorder really want the D-line to generate a good pass rush.  If they can, the team would use quite a bit of cover-two.   As fans we have a lot of questions about our D-line, but we really don't know much about Moore and Moorehead the way Smith and Van Gorder do.  These might be the right guys for the job.
