(Philadelphia, PA) – Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen, who has missed the last four games against Pittsburgh with a blood clot in his left foot, could return on Sunday when the Flyers and Penguins play Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Mellon Arena (3:00 p.m., NBC).
Timonen explained his situation following the Flyers’ 4-2 win on Thursday night.
“I’m going to skate tomorrow. I met [Dr. Ronald Fairman] today and we took another ultrasound. Based on that, the doctor said I have a green light to give it a try. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to skate [Friday] and see how it feels.
“The doctor feels that there is no chance the clot is going to get loose or break up or anything like that. It’s a great sign. A week ago they were afraid it was going to get bigger and cut loose. I’ve been on blood thinners now for eight days and we’ll see how it goes.”
Timonen, who said he is in no pain, will skate on his own as the team will most likely have the day off from practice.
“If I feel tomorrow that I’m good to go for Sunday, then I’m good for Sunday,” he said. “There is nothing to prevent me from playing. I may have numbness in my toes, but if I can deal with that then I can play.
“I just want to make sure I can help the team and not hurt them.”
In 12 games in the playoffs, Timonen has six assists and a +5 rating.
If he can make it back for Game 5 that would be huge! Sure one player doesn't win a game, but one player sure can make a difference on one shift.

WOW, that would be a huge boost to the morale of the Flyers to have them back.
If, and that is still a VERY BIG IF, they can manage a win in game 5 at Pittsburgh, this series could become real interesting!

You guys can get coalburn and tin man back all you want, hell go get hextall and all of the other Flyers from the past, this series is over come Sunday no matter who steps out on the ice for the Flyers, Penguins are going to handle this game just like they did against the Rangers in game 5 ( who I say were a better opponent then the Flyers), their going to come hitting the net with all kinds of shoots and to the Flyers to, they will skate circles around the Flyers with their younger freshers legs, so get your golf clubs cleaned off and ready for tee times on Monday...LETS GO PENS... HEEEEE SHOOTS AND SCORES... MOVE OVER INTO THE FAST LANE GRANDMA, THE BINGO GAME IS READY TO ROLL

PghSprt, yes its obvious that the Penguins have been the better team in this series, but if the Flyers get back their 2 best defencemen, then it will really help the Flyers. Kimo and Braydon play very well and can slow down the Penguins offense. If that happens, the Flyers will have a better chance to win every game they play in against the Penguins, whether it be 1 more or 3 more, it is yet to be known.
Again I'm not saying its going to give the Flyers a victory on Sunday if both dmen are back, but it will help the team as a whole and if they play a complete game then this is going at least 6.
As I stated in another thread, the biggest obsticule for the Flyers the rest of the series is going to be MAF. Sure the Penguins defence has played very well, but MAF made some great saves last night in what would have been a rout if an average goaltender was in.
Let's go Flyers!
Penguins SUCK!
