For any DolphinsSteelers, Browns, Ravens, Cowboys, Eagles, etc fans who are thinking about writing some smart-a$$ remark about Bengals getting arrested, please do us a favor and visit this website first:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/nfl/arrests.html

Here you will find a host of interesting facts like:

- in the past nine months there have 5 Jags arrested; or

- 3 Vikings have been arrested, and there are additional charges against Darrion Scott, AND they traded for a guys with 2 DUIs

- of the 10 Bengals players arrested in the past, 6 are no longer with the team...meaning the Bengals have on their roster 4 players who have been arrested...which is less than several teams, like Pittsburgh, Jax, Minn, and others.

- this all started with Chris Henry's arrest on 12/15/05.  Since then the Bengals have had 10 players arrested.  In that same period of time the Dolphins had 8 players arrested, the Vikings have had 11 players arrested (side note: Bryant McKinnie has been arrested 4 times, but I have yet to hear any outrage about the lawless Vikings); the Steelers have had 8 players arrested; the Chargers had 9 players arrested; the Bears had 7 players arrested; etc.  I'm not saying the Bengals are innocent or being treated unfairly, I'm just saying that the Bengals are no better or worse than a lot of other teams out there in terms of player behavior and run-ins with the law.  I also want to emphasize that it is inaccurate to categorize the Bengals as "bunch of criminals" seeing as how they've gotten rid of a lot of the bad characters, and those players who have been arrested who are still with the team have served their penalties and suspensions without further incidents.

Great post, I hate it when people always criticize the Bengals for this. It was an issue for the Bengals but it's a big problem for the league in general. I always told people that and I'm glad I have facts to back it up now.

Also, I don't think most of those 10 arrests would have even been widely publicized without Chris Henry starting the criminal image of the Bengals. And I don't disagree with taking a chance on Henry. You can never expect any player to destroy that many chances.

We have to learn as a fan base that we are dismissed because of our historical record by the league, hence why this (our arrest record) was emphasized as much as it was/has been.  Please also remember, generally the popular media is not very creative and there was a clever, easy pun the media could use to discuss our legal troubles...our team does have the stripes on the uniform.  Winning cures all ills...the problem?  We just don't ever win a game we're 'supposed' to win (or that we need to win for that matter).  We CRUMBLE in the clutch, so we are the mockery of the NFL - and we will be until we win like the rest of these organizations with legal troubles...with those distractions they still focus the team on winning and get it done (although, admittedly in the NFC it's a lot easier to 'win' when 7-9 gets you into the playoffs).

My money says that if we won a Super Bowl, the tag line would say something along the lines of 'Out of Stripes and into Glory' - in fact, I am copyrighting that right now. LMAO. All anyone would talk about would be our focus and how different we are as an organization.  Don't get upset about the negative press...it should fuel us all.  If you need someone to blame, make it on ESPN and the ESPN-ization of the country.

The only thing you can say is that is a GREAT POST.  The media does love to beat a dead horse when it comes to Bengal arrests.

huberh... What a great post, thank you so much for doing your homework and sharing the finds. The NFL in whole seems to have an issue with dealing with the criminal activity and somehow it has been put on the backs of the Bengals to carry the weight unfairly. Keep up the great work dude.
