The Mets are 4-4 against "A Girl's Softball Team." What does that make the Mets? The Field Hockey Team? The Chess Club? The Nats are playing hard and winning a respectable number of games with players no one else wanted. Players like Tim Redding and Dmitri Young resurrect their careers here. Players like Cliff Floyd and Carlos Delgado go to die in Shea Stadium. If the Mets want to continue calling us out, the least they could do is have a winning record against us on their home turf.

The only guy that was calling them out was Figeroa, and not everyone agreed with his comments. BTW, he's not even on the team right now, so dont make it seem like it was the whole Mets team bashing the Nats. They are a scrappy team and have always played the Mets tough.  But take it easy on your whole players resurrecting their careers and bash players at Shea.  If the Nats were THAT good at resurrecting players they'd be winning a lot more than they are.  The truth is when you start your whole roster on either unexperienced rookies, or cagey veterans, just by mere numbers SOME of them are going to have good years, just as some will have bad. There are plenty of teams this year that normally do badly that are overachieving this year, please see Florida, Tampa, KC.

And Floyd actually had a decent career with the Mets, his problem was injuries, and he had that problem everywhere he went.

Yeah, I read that thread last night about the Girl's Softball Team...it's sort of the same reference Mets fans used on the Phillies saying we weren't a real team b/c we always struggled with Washington...guess they're getting a taste of their own, huh?  Nothing wrong with the Nats, they come to play hard, no matter where they are in the standings...and the Phils struggle with them year in and year out...season on the line, I'd rather face the Mets than the Nats or the Fins....

And the latest power rankings has the Mets at #7 and they can't even beat Washington.

Is it ok that i can watch the Nats, last place in the division, ignored or ridiculed by everyone outside of DC, and not care if they win or lose? Or do i have to be one of "those guys"? I'ts alot of fun to see my favorite girl's softball team beat the projected division favorites 3 out of 4, but at the end of the day, i'm still jsut happy to have a NL team in my backyard.

Got to be a Nats fan since he can't count. We are 5-4 against the Nats and next time don't bring weak arguments like "the least they could do is have a winning record against us on their home turf.". How about you get a winning record and then you can start talking smack? Mets are struggling for sure but we are over .500. That is why there are 162 games a year.

Not that I'm making any excuses for the Mets, but...

  1. The Rays won 3 out of 4 games against the Yankees
  2. The Red Sox got swept by the Orioles
  3. The Tigers got swept by the Royals (oh the insanity!)
  4. The Padres, Rockies, Mariners and Tigers have records below .400 and were talked about as playoff contenders coming into 2008

Today, the Mets just made some terrible blunders that cost them, and since both were locked in a pitcher's duel, it was anybody's game

Blunders:

  1. Luis Castillo did not run aggressively enough to score when he should have with two out, when the OF dropped the ball
  2. Jose Reyes was tagged out at 3rd by a mile (yeech!)
  3. Carlos Beltran was picked off at third after anticipating a base hit or ground ball - it was lined out to the first baseman without touching the ground. This ended the game
  4. Damn that Willie Harris!

If the Nats are a 'whole roster on either unexperienced rookies, or cagey veterans' that takes a home series,3 out of 4, then what does that make the Mets?????

Yes these are excuses, but not really because the Rays and Orioles have better records than the NYM!!! KC is only a game and a half behind........
