Yes some of those "home-court" calls were brutal, particularly in the third quarter when we were trying to make our run, but we had our chances, and just couldn't hit the big shots at the end yet again. Each game on the road has really been just a matter of hitting out shots down the stretch, whcih we have failed to do.
My patience with Okur is running thin. His inability to defend and box out consitently is no longer being overshadowed by clutch shooting, something which needs to change in the next game. That flop at the end of the game was pathetic. Even if he did get shoved by Gasol (which he might have) he didn't even make a play to get the ball, he just tried to get the call. That is not the kind of player I want on my team. Boozer needs to show up on the road and have an all star game, not just an average, 15-20pt, 10 reb game. We also need to limit turnovers and dominate the glass like we can. We still have not played anything close to a complete game on the road, and had chances in all three games. Of course, it doesn't matter if we don't take care of business at home.

I'm with Sloan on this one. I believe the calls were bad enough to cost us a shot at the road win. We may have played bad but then again, so did LA but they received the help they needed to play bad and still win.

Jezo, you may wanna lighten up on Mehmet a bit, he's basically playing through a pretty sore Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, the Jazz are a little thin on viable big men to spell Okur in this series - tough break...

No basically about it. He is playing through it. He was icing his ankles in the first half of game 4 and came out and had a monster second half. He is lacking on D because he has to play back a little in case someone tries to get the step on him, he loses his ability to cut with the soreness. It's either try to make them hit a jumper or burn him to the hole. Fact is, since the all star game Memo is playing better than Booze.
You are right though. I hate the whining and the flopping, just make the damn play. If you don't get a call go make a play and do something to get it back. Whining never changes the refs mind.

I'lm with you guys. Here are the top 5 things that sucked about game 5
1. Boozer: Wow! he turned into JoeJoe the idiot basketball player. I think we may have have won had Milsap played in his place.
2. TNT must have more than those 4 stupid comercials they played every damn time! For some reason that really got me quite angry.
3. Refs. The Lakers probably would have won if the calls in the 4th were even because Boozer sucked so bad but, it was really uneven. why does it have to be like that?
4. Watching the ugliest player in basketbal Pau Gasol kick our butts. I Truly HATE him as a basketball player. He's like Joe Dirt, that nasty facial pubic hair is always there and makes me want to hurl.
5. Kobe only takes 10 shots and we still lose. We missed a prime chance to win a championship. If SA goes down, I honstly think we would take it. So close!
I still believe, we can do it. Boozer It is ALL up to you.

You are never going to get that call when you are not making a play for the ball. If he had jumped up to try to get the rebound, perhaps the ref would see that the push in the back was the reason he didn't get it, but when you just flop to get the call....it ain't gonna happen.
Take care of buisness at home, force a game seven, then we will get one more shot - all of the pressure will be on them.

First off, I agree that you need to give Okur a little break. The achilles tendon is no joke. I tore mine 3 years ago and still have problems today.
Second, your not going to get those calls on the road, game 4 proved that for us. Make an attempt for the ball and quit flopping.
Pau is a great player and there is only 1 guy on the Jazz that I wouldn't trade him for and that's DWILL. I agree he needs to shave, but he owned you in the second.
Third, if Kobe is only shooting 10 times and almost cracking 30 while shooting 50% +, you won't win.
I think were looking at seven games here, but I would love to see them wrap it up on your home court and send the best team at home this year with a loss at home in the last game of the season.
Game 7 does put pressure back on us, but now it's pressure on you. Let's see how Utah handles an elimination game.

Glad to see some of my fellow Jazz fans aren't blaming the game on the refs. I was pulling my hair out in the fourth quarter over some of the whistles, but you have to expect that on the road. Jazz are maybe the most physical team in the NBA and they haven't got the calls thier way all season. They should know this by now.
Game six is going to be tough, but I think the Jazz pull out a win. I am hoping so because game seven's are what makes the NBA worth watching.

This is a pretty evel-keeled thread. Nice to see.
Second, your not going to get those calls on the road
This is what makes me insane about the NBA. A foul should be a foul no matter who does it where or when. The fact that it does matter is a joke.
Let's also see how the LA handles a second straight close-out opportunity on the road, they're 1 for 1 so far
Really? I'm thinking that Utah is a little tougher play at home then Denver. But maybe that's just me.
I was pulling my hair out in the fourth quarter over some of the whistles, but you have to expect that on the road.
This is exactly right. You expect bad calls on the road, particularly in the playoffs. In order to win, you need to play above it by being aggressive on offense and taking (and making) good shots. The Jazz have not done that thus far in LA and have had the same thing happen to them 3 times.
No doubt the Jazz were hurt by some terrible calls in the 4th quarter. But it's the Jazz fault that it mattered. When you know what is going to happen, and you fail to adjust, the blame is on you.
Hopefully there will be a Game 7 where they can finally learn from their mistakes.

It's too hard to play against the Lakers and the Officials. Period.
Boozer didn't do enough, in this series or any of the playoffs this year for that matter. Despite everything else, the Jazz fought hard to make it a good one.

Yeah right, it's the officials' fault that your mighty Jazz shot just 38% compared to the Lakers' 50%. It's the officials' fault that your all-star forward scored a pathetic 12 points and fouled out early.
Now go cheer for your team on the golf course.

I would say that for the most part through the majority of the series, the refs were lousy for each team; particulary the road team. But there was never any true consistency in the calls throughout.
I would agree, a foul should be a foul regardless of the building it is in, but that will simply never happen in the current NBA . . . . . IMO, that isn't the way Stern wants it.
Can we hit the cluch shot? Not every night! We blew a chance in game 5, and then layed a giant egg in game 6! We could have had a shot, and we blew it. But, then again, I think we gained some valuable experience and learned more to prepare for next year.
Great series! And good luck to the Lakers . . . . good luck to Fish . . . .

Come on guys, I'm rather luke-warm in my liking for the Jazz, but don't like the Lakers at all. And I have to tell you that I think the losses in this series had nothing to do with the refs. Jazz fans will never be taken seriously until they quite boo-hooing about the calls and start admitting that perhaps their team wasn't shooting well, or boxing out. How can you complain about the reffing when both Boozer and Okur refused to show up past game 3? Not to mention the fact that the Jazz are a young, rather inexperienced team who were facing veterans like Fisher, Bryant and "Buddha Phil", who in all probability constitute a better team.
Be happy your team has a bright future, and did this well against a genuinely good basketball team. There were moments where I thought the Jazz would pull it off.
Also, perhaps something is wrong with Sloan's coaching style. He seems to create teams that crumble under pressure when facing strong, experienced basketball teams. I just can't believe its a coincidence that Malone choked all those times, and now you have | |
