I have been nothing but impressed with this kid since he was called up in Spring Training. He now leads all rookies in batting average, and as we saw today hes a pretty slick third basemen. He has 3 homeruns and he can obviously handle ML pitching.
The whole purpose for this post is....
This is from Robert Timm on Dodgerdugout.com
Am I the only one who thinks that Blake Dewitt isn't the answer at third base for the Dodgers? Certainly, the kid is fun to root for and he's done an admirable job filling in. But Andy LaRoche is healthy now, wasting away in Las Vegas, and he's ready to contribute. Time to bring him up. What's the worst that could happen? If LaRoche is struggling after 100 at-bats, you've still got DeWitt. Nothing against Blake, I'm just ready to see what Andy can do.

anyway...
Timm did post the following day and backing off on his comment a bit, but he still thinks LaRoche should be the third basemen.
I however think he's completely off, for two reasons, number one, IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT. Hes hitting over .300, 3 HRs, and is playing a solid 3B.
Number 2
DeWitt did what LaRoche couldnt do, DeWitt came in from day 1 and let himself be known to the Dodgers, he came in right away and produced. LaRoche had his shot and didnt. LaRoche got to play third the last few weeks of the season ,and a few weeks in the middle of the season, and didnt do much at all.
Lets compare the two.
LaRoche (2007)
G-35 AB-93 R-16 H- 21 HR- 1 RBI- 10 BB-20 K- 24 OBP-.365 SLG- .312 AVG- .226
DeWitt (2008) through 5/14
G- 34 AB-103 R-18 H-33 HR- 3 RBI- 19 BB- 12 K-13 OBP- .393 SLG- .470 AVG-.320
The numbers speak for themselves, DeWitt is also in the ROY mix, it would be our first ROY since Todd Hollandsworth

Blake Dewitt has come to play and so far he's earned the spot. They'd have to be crazy to take him out when he's batting .320--and over the last 10 days, it's probably more like .450. Looks to me like he's just starting to settle into his groove.

If Dewitt keeps it up we should keep him there, only because Kent is still on the roster. However, I think Laroche was primed for a big year, he was hitting very well in Spring Training against the starters. I don't think Hu or Abreu are the answer at second. I say we call up Laroche in Sept, give him some ABs on the big league roster. Next year put Dewitt at 2B and put Laroch at 3B. Resign Furcal and use Hu and Abreu as trade bait, maybe package them with Pierre. I would actually love to see this!

Yeah, If it ain't broke don't fix it. Why would anybody in their right mind sit Blake Dewitt on the bench right now. He's red-hot, he's hitting home runs left and right, and he's been a force in a Dodger offense that hasn't been great lately. DeWitt has earned his spot in the lineup, and LaRoche hasn't.
But yeah, with Nomar probably being let go next year and Kent retiring, DeWitt will just go to second and LaRoche will get the job at 3rd.

I have said the whole time that LaRoche is the best option at third.
But I will eat my crow. I would leave DeWitt in there as long as he is playing like this. How can you justify taking him out?
And if he keeps hitting like this, he could find himself in the ROY talks.

I've already heard his name in the (very) early talks for ROY. I agree though, it doesn't make much sense to take DeWitt out of the lineup when he's producing almost everyday and playing a very solid 3B. If LaRoche was playing like this, nobody would be wondering if someone else should come in and take his spot....so why would we be wondering that with DeWitt. If he does start to fall down on production, well, LaRoche is there and will get his chance then. But for now, I say, enjoy the production we're getting out of the 3B position for once.

I agree... as long as he plays well he should stay there...it's actually nice to have some options at third base for once..instead of a revolving door of them since Abdrian Beltre left... I said this at the beginning of the season...and it still holds true
It's a long season..things have a way of working themselves out...the roster and lineup you have at the start of the season is rarely the one you have at the end...all we have to do is to be within striking distance in August...then hopefully we can turn on the jets and make a run...
Every game does count...just the games at the end of the season seem to count more than the ones in the beginning.. We just need to be in the hunt..then we can kill the prey and go to the playoffs..
I know this has been a weird season so far...but I still truly think this team has the talent to make it to the playoffs.
Go Blue!!!!

lad16 (Bill Russell's old number),
I've been saying exactly the same thing all season. Blake Dewitt has exceeded every expectation and has exceeded the MLB production by Andy LaRoche who has had several shots at winning theDodgers' 3B job. Remember Nomar Garciaparra was brought in at first base.
There is NO WAY you take this kid out of his current spot this year unless he goes in the tank, which I do not expect to happen. He's earned the job the hard way and deserves all the credit for his success.
I'm also impressed that even DTown is now on board with keeping DeWitt in place. (Props there DTown)
As for next year, the team has some options. My only question about the move to second that some propose is whether DeWitt has any middle infield experience??? Turning two is a whole different world from the hot corner.
