Needs some advice on a possible trade. I was offered A-Rod, E. Volquez, J. Valverde, and C. Jackson for D. Wright and M. Teixeira. I'm in a 10 team h2h standard scoring. Should I take the trade or should I stick with my guys? Here is the rest of my team as of now: C- B. McCann, 1st - M. Teixeira, 2nd - B. Phillips, 3rd - D. Wright, SS - R. Furcal, U - M. Kemp, OF - C. Granderson, C. Lee, R. Church, Bench, J. Upton, J. Elisbury, S. Drew. Pitchers - J. Peavy, M. Cain, T. Lincecum, S. Marcum, J. Lackey, Z. Greinke, J. Jurrjens, Bench - R. Johnson, L. Hernandez, C. Kershaw. I could use some pitching help, but lose bat. Thanks for any input.
is 1 closer going to ever win you saves in a week? you'll need more than 1.keep that in mind.Conner Jackson figures to end up a downgrade to Teixeira, possible it doesn't work out that way.Is Volquez THIS GOOD? Is this a daily lineup change to where you don't lose a weeks worth of stats if A Rod fights with this injury for the rest of the season, to me thats the key to this entire trade. As appealing at this trade looks, depending on your starting roster size & rules it could backfire on you & not be worth the risk. If you think C Jack can match Teixeira & Volquez is in the CY Young talk all year than it might be worth the healty Wright for a ? health-wise A Rod
Volquez is the real deal, IMO. Valverde has turned it around and is putting up numbers. So I have no qualms on those two fronts. The other two are more questionable. Yes, A-Rod has had an injury but Teixeria has a questionable back. I would say it is close and advise you go with your gut on this one. I would probably do it, but completely understand if you don't.
I think the key is A-Rod's health. But I do think he will be OK, that is why they are keeping him out longer right now. And I don't really see Tex having health problems. The cold weather was more likely the problem and the reason he missed the next day.
Production wise, I think A-Rod/Jackson will be pretty much a wash with Tex/Wright. If I had to go one way or the other, I would lean toward Tex/Wright slightly. But getting Volquez and Valverde puts your side over the top. Especially since you want more pitching. If this is a points league, all the better. You don't really need saves and having one closer each week is good. If it is a 5X5, Valverde will not win you the saves category by himself.
I saw Volquez on TV and his stuff is nasty. He will have some burps since he is young but if Dusty can keep him trusting his stuff, he will be a very good pitcher for all of this year.
You would have to drop 2 players but that would be easy with L. Hernandez and Kershaw. Would you rather have Volquez/Valverde or Hernandez/Kershaw? Hernandez is pitching way over his head and is due for a crash. Kershaw, unless it is a keeper league, will still be available for a while until just before he gets the call. Keep an eye on the Dodgers pitching and team reports to see when he is going to get the call. As soon as you hear something, you can always drop someone else and pick him back up.
I may have some pause in taking this trade. ARod is a stud, no question, but do you recall a few years ago when another stud got a quad injury? His name sounded a lot like Beltran and it sapped him of his HR stroke all year... How big an upgrade do you really receive?
Between Tex and Wright you can count on 70+ HR's... With ARod and CJax how many can you count on? Sure you also get a nice Closer option in Valverde - like him a lot and Volquez is a classic sell high SP who had a hot start and the only way for him to go is straight ahead with sustained performance or down... it's a first year SP - think he'll sustain? Odds are against it though not impossible. If A-Rod comes back healthy and normal you get some upgrades for sure... but this is a risk/reward trade for you.
Do you risk getting a Beltranesque A-Rod and do you risk Volquez doesn't turn back into a 1st year SP? Will CJax cool off (and he already has some) If this happens you lose. If A-Rod is healthy and Volquez remains steady, and CJax makes another adjustment to continue his hot start and extend it throughout the year then you come out ahead in this trade significantly. If not you got a lot of trouble! Do you accept the risk? That's the real question brother... and a question you can answer only.
P.S. That isn't a "No, don't do it" answer either... It is a "this could be a make or break trade. If it works out you could sail ahead. If not you could be facing a lost season ... again, weighing the risk/reward, what are you willing to accept?
i would make that deal in a second! arod and wright cancel each other out, they are both great players so the trade is realy tex for jackson, volquez, and valverde. you must be kidding!!!! i would do that in a heart beat.
I would do the deal as well, if Jackson has turned the corner he has appeared to then he's going to start putting up .320 100-20-110 lines every year like he was projected to as a prospect coming up. Not as good as Tex (especially since a bulk of his production always comes in the second half) but more than enough when you are getting back Arod, a closer and an impact rookie pitcher.
Just a note on evaluating uneven trades. You should always act as if any players you were dropping as a result of the deal were in the players you were giving up in the deal. Just makes it easier to see how much you are really losing.
