I know the guy can run, and he is a decent out feilder. But this guy can't hit a lick. When was the last time this guy hit a line drive out of the infield? What's wrong with replacing him with Shane Costa? I thought this guy never got the chance he deserves. He' always plays well when he is called up.

Actually, from my recollections, Costa has not played well when called up.  He plays well in the minors, but always seems to struggle when he hits the Bigs.  I used to look at his minor league numbers and wonder why he wasn't called up and playing, but then I saw him actually play in the Majors.  It kind of reminds me of Berroa.  When he got sent back down, he's had great numbers in Triple A, but can't replicate that when given the chance to come back up.

In 400+ at bats he has 5 homeruns, and is hitting in the .250s.  He's definitely not playing well.

As far as Gathright, he's never going to hit for power.  He's going to put the ball in play and make the fielders hustle because of his speed.  He's a throwback centerfielder -- ala Willie Wilson.  Right now his average is low, but remember he hit .300+ last year, so he may be capable of bringing that up.  It just depends on what you want in a player.  If you want homeruns, then he's not the right candidate.

I think in the right situation this guy would be a great lead off hitter..  but we seem to be a few big sticks away from that type of team.

I say keep him playing we were winning games when this guy started at the start of the year. I have another thread along this line I want to post

if he's going to hit a HR, it will be an inside the parker. i would stick with him a while longer, i think he can bring his avg. up. his speed helps this team both on off. and def. though as i looked he only has 1 double and 1 triple.

I think Gathright is a solid player for the Royals.  Over the last 4-5 games he has taken away hits with his range in center field.  An everyday outfield of DeJesus, Teahan and Gathright gives the pitchers more confidence to throw the ball over the plate.  His hitting has been spotty this year, but he'll probably end up with a BA of .275 or so.  If he can continue to draw walks and get on base he creates for the rest of the lineup.  I don't think hes a good enough hitter to be leadoff, but he is perfect for the 9 spot.  That allows the Royals best hitters to advance him if he gets on base.  Overall, I think he's doing the job they are asking of him.
