Check out this story!

LOS ANGELES - As other media outlets report the details on how USC's O. J. Mayo received cash and gifts before and during his Trojan career (if one year can be considered a "career"), no less that three separate sources revealed another startling fact.  All three of the sources spoke on the condition of anynimity and confirmed with The Associated Press (AP) that the NCAA has resisted issuing sanctions to the University of Southern California.  Said one, "They don't want to do it since USC is such a powerhouse school for collegiate sports.  If this were 1999, (the governing body) would have already placed santions on them for the (Reggie) Bush situation.  However, since they attract such a large audience with their following and their success since 2002, they don't want to shoot a cash cow."

It is uncertain how far this conspiracy goes.  Each source informed the AP that they are really sick over the Mayo situation because if they enact santions, they believe the pressure would be increased to also sanction the football program for the Reggie Bush rule infractions.  Another sources said, "Look, NCAA football is at an all time high with regard to its popularity, a trend that has just exploded since 2003.  It is no coincidence that this coinsides with the rise to power of the football program of the major collegiate player in the nation's second biggest city.  (The NCAA governing body) will do anything to avoid penalizing USC."

An idependent review by the AP of the profits of NCAA sports was conducted and it was revealed that between 1988 and 2001, nearly all colleges lost money.  Starting in 2002, coinsiding with Pete Carroll's run of success with the Trojans, all colleges make money hand over fist.  Roger Kucharski, one of the nation's leading experts on the financial profits in sports concluded, "No wonder they refuse to sanction USC.  They have saved everyone's bacon!"

The AP will continue its investigation into these new allegations.  More as information develops.

My opinion is the same as Jag's that he wrote in another thread---that there obviously needs to be a culture change at USC.  I don't know if Floyd knew about these payments, but it seems to me he should have known.  It would stand to follow that there should probably be some sort of penalty given to the program.  The real problem, of course, is the agents who do this and the athletes who take the $.  They should be punished as well.

With regard to all of the conspiracy theorists who believe that the NCAA will sweep under the rug just because they are USC, I think this thread shows what I think of that opinion......ridiculous.

“It frightens me and embarrasses me to go public with it. But by the same token, I don't know what else to do,"

Irony?

Bob I copied this quote form your link.  Is this a quote about an NCAA informant delivering the goods about USC?  Well...not exactly...it's a quote about a man wearing a Speedo.

Now that's funny!  You better check that link.

Thanks Bob.

All I can say is WOW!  But I'll also bet OU and Bama were both cash cows at the time they were placed on probation.  This has to make any fan of a team who's been placed on probation absolutely furious.  At the same time I can feel for USC fans because I couldn't bear the thought of my Tigers being placed on probation and possibly losing post season play.  It will be interesting to see where this goes and if this will actually rattle the walls of the NCAA more than it does the halls of USC.
