What do Royals fans think about Barry Bonds in a Royals uniform?

IMO this would be a great addition on the field.......  a patient power hitter that gets on base what???? that sounds like a freaking unicorn or the Lochness monster or bigfoot does that really exist???

In the clubhouse???  well might be another story. as long as he can still mash I WOULD CHEER FOR BARRY BONDS.

Maybe if we hadn't already gotten Jose Guillen, because I would not want to cut the playing time of guys like Teahen and even further restrict Gathright's playing time at the major league level.  You would either have to do that or make Butler the everyday first baseman, something he is probably a year or two away from being ready for.  Besides some power, Bonds doesn't offer some of the other things that the Royals as constructed are currently lacking such as speed.  It would also be harder to hide his complete lack of defensive ability if he were to play outfield in the more spacious K.  The guy is injury prone and we would probably get 80-100 games at best out of him for the investment.  And its not like he would come back for the league minimum, that would require him to put his pride on the backburner.  All of this is in addition to the attitude problems he brings to the table, which are enough to potentially ruin this young team.

I agree with some points you made but I couldn't see Bonds demanding more than the vet minuim with a very incentive laden contract.  Butler needs to be playing first anyway this guy is the weakest DH in the history of baseball.  Bonds would take time away for Ross Gload with the right lineup.   Our defense right now is playing in the top five I believe and with a little pop in our lineup we would have more chances to score runs.  I like gathright in the  lineup I think it adds another dimension to our team.  Guillen is a solid second tier power hitter not a marquee power hitter. WE NEED A HOME RUN THREAT this team would be a great NL team not in the American league though.

As for Bonds attitude well it is what it is. but he's on the downside of his career not really in a positon to demand a whole lot.

It does sound like it could help us, but somewhere out there in the baseball world, there's 30 ML GMs that think its not worth the baggage.  With several exceptions, such as David Ortiz, Bonds could probably out perform most DHs in the American League, yet not one single ML GM has called him to offer him a look.  There maybe something going on we don't know,.  I don't believe in the collusion theory as there is just too much pressure placed on GMs and managers to win.  If Glass and Dayton Moore wanted Bonds, they could afford him for this year.  From the estimates I've heard, the Royals have spent at least $12Mil less in this seasons payroll than  what they got through MLB in revenue sharing...which doesn't include what the Royals take in on concessions, parking, local radio and tv, etc...  Since the Royals have this surplus, I wish they'ld get off their collective rumps and sign Grienke, Gordon and Soria for the next 5-10 years before they hit their arbitration/free agency years so that we don't have to witness what we have in the past decade when we saw Beltran, Dye and Damon go bye bye.

I am not exactly sure why no GMs will not even look at Bonds. KC is second to last in the AL Central right now, what do the Royals have to lose by bringing him in? Make him a DH and move Butler to 1st. How does everyone know what Bonds would sign for, when noone has asked him!?! Maybe he would take a incentive based contract with a league minimum. You will never know, if you don't ask.

I really don't think that the offensive bump Bonds would provide would make up for the potential of the negative side-show that he'd create.  Bonds is a year older and hasn't faced live pitching in a game since September.  I certainly wouldn't expect the 2007 version of Bonds let alone the 2003 version.  It appears the Royals have good team chemistry now and these young guys will come along.  Guillen is finally swinging a hot bat and Butler will get it figured out.  There's enough of a positive veteran presence with Grudzielanek and Guillen on this club that we don't  need an indicted 43 year old who could possibly blow things up just as easily as help contribute.

Bond getting charged...............There goes our world series!!!

J.K.

Well with 14 plus felony charges pending maybe that's why? Did these GM's know this was coming? I still bet he gets off with probation!!  If it was you or I we would be getting like 20 yrs.

Why do you think they haven't moved to sign our good young players to long term deals?

Grienke is going to be eligeble for arbitration soon isn't he?

If they lose this guy to another team I will be sooo pissed

I think it would be a travesty of epic proportions to bring in Barry Bonds.  Even if (and that's a big if) he could produce decent numbers, the circus show that he would bring with him would be detrimental to the attitudes of our young up and comers.  That would be stupid to destroy team chemistry, and totally unnecessary.
