By no means am I going to say Quennville was the reason the Avalanche were swept in the Detroit series.  It was simply a combination of key injuries as well as playing a far superior team in the Detroit Red Wings

However, when you're a victim of total playoff domination as the AV's were in the Wings series, regardless of the circumstances, an organization is going to look in a new direction.  I think Quennville did a great job with what he's had the past few years and has certainly had some success.  But the urge to win and win now is always there with any quality sports organization.  And when that doesn't happen, someone usually has to take the fall.  And a very large percentage of the time, that person is going to be the coach.  And I'm going to agree with this decision because I think he may just not have been the right fit for this team.

Take Brian Billick and the NFL for example.  The team had a great season back in 2000 and won a superbowl under Billick.  Since then, this has been one of the most underacheiving teams in all of sports with the talent they have possessed on defense the past 5-10 years.  But because of that one glimpse of success in 2000, they stuck with Billick until finally after an absolutely pathetic season this past year, they decided they'd had enough and finally got rid of him.  Had they made the change a few years back and brought in a new coach to change the stagnant aura they had in the years following the superbowl, who knows how good this team could have been.

All that being said, I wish the best for Quennville and hope he lands a job for a franchise that fits his coaching style.  I certainly think he will have no problems doing so as he certainly has a good understanding of the game and has a quality character.
