Why would we have to trade if he is a free agent?

I don't think Elton Rand is a UFA this off season.  ESPN radio I think it was said something about him having an opt-out clause this year, but he was not expected to use it thanks to his injury all last year.  So, unless he opts out - a trade with be required to get him

OK, I'm gonna sound like a know-it-all jerk and probably have someone slam me for it but here goes!

Please quit talking about Elton Brand and all the other players we can't afford under the cap, unless you are expecting DeVoss to pay the luxury tax which he won't!

Secondly please learn which position the players actually play!!

Howard is a center not a PF.
Evans is a SG not a SF.
Gortat can play C and PF not just one or the other.
Same with Battie.

Without knowing any changes to be made (except that Arroyo and Augustine will be gone - not sure why anyone would have Augustine anywhere in the rotation anyway) here is my line-up:

C: Dwight, Battie, Gortat
PF: Battie, Gortat, Lewis, Draft Pick maybe....(Fran sucks!!! and Augustine won't be back)
SF: Lewis, Turk
SG: Turk, Evans, Bogans, Lewis on occasion
PG: Nelson, Dooling, draft pick maybe

Thank you, Crispy.  I thought I was the only one here about to flame about everyone talking about max salary free agent pickups.  We are at the cap limit even with Garrity and Arroyo off the books.

I never said he was a center. All i said was that his natural position coming out of high school was Power forward and if we signed a solid center we could put him at Power Forward. I don't know that cap room we have this year and who we would be able to get so thats why I started this thread. And to anwser the person who made the comment on the Magic having to trade for Jermaine O'Neal, Jermaine has the option to come back with the Pacers. His contract is up but he still has his team option, so if he decides to stay with the Pacers we would have to trade to get him.

For anyone who doesn't know, here is a decent link to the current Magic salary cap situation

http://www.sportscity.com/NBA/Orlando-Magic-Salaries

Without Dooling and Evans, we are already over the cap.  Of course, we can use our midlevel to sign both of them or maybe, just maybe, ownership will sign these guys to one year contracts and go a bit over the cap to sign another peice of the puzzle while they get their new arena built.

If Alonzo Mourning stays a FA, I think we could use the mid-level exception on him.

Why? He should retire and I wouldn't want to waste the mid-level exception on him. Yes, he's a great defender, but I'm sure there's someone else out there (a big man, maybe) who we can snag at the same price who's a little bit younger.

I like Mourning alot but no way he leaves Miami and thats if he even plays next year cuz of that ugly knee injury he suffered this season. I'm sure he'll hang it up this season. He already has his ring and he's on the other side of 35. No way we could sign a FA like Elton Brand or Jermaine O'Neal either so we can drop that idea. Stick with the young guns we have and add a nice complimentary PF through the draft.
