Through 50 games we were 21-29.
Why is there so many threads that are screaming that we are in a state of panic.
The Red Sox were 35-15 last year in their first 50 games. We were 14 games behind them May 28th. At the end of June we were 11 games behind them. At the end of July we were 7 games behind them. There's a trend there. IT'S A LONG SEASON.
We're only 4 games behind them right now. That's with the injuries to Arod, Posada, and Bruney. That's with the struggles of Cano, Kennedy, and Hughes. Considering that we are only 4 games behind the BEST TEAM IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE, can we please congratulate the Yankees, and trust the direction of Girardi and Cashman?
There's posts calling for Joba to move to the rotation, calling for us to trade for unavailable players like Oswalt, or unreliable available players like Harden, or Millwood. There are also posts which I find offensive, David Wells??? The guy is 45 and he was horrible last year pitching for two contenders who play in pitchers parks. A 5.43 ERA is no better than Hughes or Kennedy, the only difference is they are 24 and 22 years younger than him.
Rasner has been great, Mussina has been great, Wang has been an ace, Pettitte has been great lately. The back end of our bullpen has been phenomenal. Our hitting has been OK, and when Arod and Posada comes back, and when Cano comes around, we'll be a completely better team.
Does anyone share my optimism, or does everyone have their finger on the panic button? (Like the decision to start Joba)
