MnM7187 I really dont think that GB's linebacking core is much better than the Vikings. Ej Henderson and Chad Greenway had almost exactly the same stats compared to Nick Barnett and Aj Hawk and Ben Leber had better stats than Poppinga. I thought they were better as well but to be honest I no longer believe that. Yah your corners are better, but they also are old and have more penalties called on them then any other CB's in the league. Yah, you have a good front four but you also traded your best DT and even he wasnt in the league of Kevin or Pat Williams. Now the Vikings have the best DE in the North as well.
GB's offense was completely reliant on Brett Favre and that includes Ryan Grant who greatly benefitted from all of the spread offence and fear of Brett. Yes the recievers are good but recievers also rely on a QB. However they are good at getting yards after the catch. Please, dont start with, oh well Aaron Rodgers looked good in the half game against Dallas. That proves nothing. He has never started a game in the NFL so no one knows exactly what he will be.

Slashsnake, I would love for a 9-10 win season and anything is possible but we have a horrific schedule that is going to take some great play from our team to get to that point. Again only time will tell and this team definitely has the talent to do it. But we will need to be on top of our game cause it wont be easy.

protection for Tarvaris Jackson sometimes wasn't that great he had pass rec that could not catch the ball as raw as he was he played ok to expect him to perform wonders is unfair the Vikings D-Line should has a shot at being very good just hope nobody gets hurt! the Vikings should have a very good team in the NFL

Has anyone forgotten that the Vikings drafted an underrated QB who probably SHOULD have gone in the first round in John David Booty? Tavaris Jackson should settle on the notion of being a slash type player....

I think everyone can agree that 10 wins is 99% sure to make the playoffs in the NFC. Last season, the Vikings went 8-8 with a very young team. With the offseason additions Minnesota made, including their draft, I dont see how anyone would think that they would not improve on their record from a year ago.
Green Bay had an amazing year from Favre and surprised everyone last season, going 13-3, a record that tied for the franchise best. You cannot realisticly expect a team to improve on such a great record in a league that revolves around parity. On top of that, they lost the most important player on their team.
For anyone to say that Green Bay is clearly the best team in the NFC North or that the Vikings dont stand a chance of beating them out this season obviously lacks the simple skill of reading comprehension. I cannot beleive how many people are actually this stupid...

Still some improvement needed but Berrian is a serious upgrade over Williamson, and has better numbers over the past 2 years than Greg Jennings
Hahahaha. Ok, first of all Jennings was injured his rookie season and didn't get to see playing time. Second of all, the injury hobbled him for the rest of the season when he did come back. Even so, I don't see how in the world you think Williamson has better numbers than Jennings?
Jennings started 24 games
Berrian started 32 games
Jennings had 1552 yards (64.7 yds/game)
Berrian had 1726 yards (53.9 yds/game)
Jennings had 17 touchdowns (0.70 TD/game)
Berrian had 11 touchdowns (0.34 TD/game)
I really don't see where Berrian's numbers were better than Jennings' besides starts....is starts what you're talking about?

Please don't use that Ryan Grant benefitted "greatly" from Brett Favre bs. Like it or not, the line should be able to stop a running back. And after running for maybe 10-15 yards you would think that any pro secondary would realize it's a running play and converge and gang tackle the guy.. for some reason nobody did that last season and they payed the price. Sure Grant had more success due to a strong passing attack, but in the real world it shouldn't have benefitted him to the point that he was able to rip off 1 40+ yarder per game. Part of that has to do with his combination of speed, balance, vision and elusiveness. Also, Greg Jennings is infinity billion times better than Bernard Berrian.

I don't really have any bias on the Packers or Vikings so I'm just throwing out my opinions:
Greg Jennings is a much better receiver than Bernard Berrian. For route running alone, nevermind his catching and elusive ability after the catch.
I think the Vikings have the best 4-3 D line, but the Patriots have the best 3-4 D line.
The Vikings have had the best Run d in the league the past two years and I dont' expect that to change, but they have also had one of the worst Pass defenses the past two years. Now Jared Allen may improve that, but it's going to come down to how well their DE opposite Allen plays and their 2ndary.
What I find rather interesting is that the Vikings are now built more like a harsh weather playoff team which is great for a dome team in their division.
Again, their success comes down to QB play. But I do think the Vikings should win their division this year and probably go 11-5 barring any catastrophic injuries.

Well that's an urban legend made up by people reading stats selectively.
You know, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
What are you looking at there? Total yards? Yds/G?
If so, this logic is perfectly sensible:
Pass defense:
Team A: 200 attempts 4000 yards
Team B: 600 attempts 4001 yards
Team A has a better pass def than Team B.
The last 2 seasons the Vikings pass defense has not been one of the worst in the league and they have not been one of the best either. The truth is they have been perfectly mediocre.

Well actually I was going off another post that I was on where someone was showing the stats between Jennings and Berrian. I do not think that Berrian is better than Jennings, but its not so one sided as you guys are saying. Jennings has had Favre throwing him the ball, that helps any receiver. Berrian has done good with the likes of Grossman, Orton, and Greise. Dont tell me Favre has nothing to do with it. On to Grant, how can you honestly say that Favre had nothing to do with Grants success last year. He never ever had to face more than 6 guys in the box because of the fear of Favre and the passing game. Look I am a ND homer and like Grant, but a lot of his success was because of Favre last year. And look Packer fans don't be trying to talk your smack to me. I have not said one deroggatory comment about your team other than comparibles in my posts. I dont hate GB and if it is not the VIkes then I guess I dont mind seeing the Pack, granted that was with Favre cause I loved the guy. Now that you have Rodgers my outlook might change a little. Relax, you Packer fans are such smart a$$es. Just admit it is going to be a tough year for this division crown, both teams are as equally talented and it should be a good run. Good Luck.

This is a good defensive line, I think Kevin Williams is the best defensive tackle in the league right now, but this d-line isnt as good as the '87 line with Keith Mallard and John Randall. The Vikings fate rest 100% on T-Jack. At the end of last year, after Adrian Peterson went off on the Bears and Chargers, teams started putting 8-9 guys in the box. AD was stopped and Jackson wasn't talented enough to take advantage of the situation. If Tarvaris Jackson doesn't improve greatly, the Vikings will be a 6-8 win team. If he does start to become a legitamate NFL QB, the Vikings could win up to 11-12 games.

keep dreaming MnM it aint happening. I am not saying we are going to be beat you but you arent shutting us out again. Jlee, what are you talking about John Randle didnt even start his career till 1990. And this line is way better than that line. That whole defense in the late 80's was awesome but this Dline is much better. The thing with that defense is they had a tremendous defensive backfield to.
