Nice the Padres cut Jim Edmonds, and then they, bring up Chase Headley makes sense........instead we bring up Jody Gerut, why? Between Scott Hairston, Judy Gerut, Justin Huber, and Paul McAnulty, that just screams all star outfield. The Padres need to do what is right and bring up Headley, if not now when?

I agree... We might as well call Headley up. What's the worst that could happen? As far as I'm concerned the worst has already happened for the Padres.

I hear you! The Padres will get better production out of some players, I think Khalil Greene and Kevin Kouzmanoff will improve, but with the collection of oitfielder's we have Chase Headley has to be an improvment. Let's hope Mark Prior and some others guys step up.

In the paper today, it said that towers didn't want to bring up headley because people would view him as the saviour and it would put alot of unneeded pressure on the kid. I think this is a good call calling him up later, when hopefully things are going well. Hitting is contagious and if he is called up in a time like this. I don' t think that sets him up for a promising start to his career

Ohshnapitzwill

I read that too. I agree with it up to a point.

At the same time I have to ask myself when is it not a pressure situation in the bigs? When he does come up it won't be easy. He will be dealing with the adjustment to MLB from AAA and the fans expectations won't be any less if the Padres should suddenly start winning at say...a 500 clip.

I think they called up Gerut first to see if they could solve the Center Field problem.  If Jody Gerut, Scott Hairston, or Calix Crabbe can solidify themselves as an everyday center fielder then bringing up Headly makes sense. Then he will have a consistant center fielder to be playing with.  Being new to the outfield Headley will need a strong Center Fielder out there to help him, and a platoon in center would be a huge detriment to Headley.  I like what I have seen so far with Gerut, he hustles on ground outs and seems to have good at bats.  I can see a good June 20th call up for Headley, the Padres will be back from their trip to Cleveland and New York, with a good 3-4 weeks before the All-Star break to give him some time to get ready for the 2nd half of the season.

Don't forget that Gerut has a lot more big league experience than Headley. He played for Cleveland in 2005 for the entire season and showed a very strong May with a .444 OBP. He had a .350 runner in scoring position average all year long and also was very strong against San Fran batting .636 (we play them to end the month) He's also a quick guy so having him hit leadoff in place of Giles shows effort in our staff to shake things up a little bit to make a positive change. I really like the way the lineup looks now and I think that when Greene heats up a little more we'll be seeing him more in the middle of the order instead at the bottom.

C'mon... bring the kid up already! You gotta be kidding me... Gerut? Crabbe? McAnulty? Huber?  Huh?

Someone should tell Towers... there is no pressure when your team has the worst record in the majors!!! There are no expectations at this point!  Give Headley a shot to get you back in striking distance by the All-star break and see if you can add a guy or two to put you over the hump. What's he (Towers) waiting for?
