Jagr, Avery, Straka, Shanahan, Roszival, Malik, Mara, Strudwick, Hutchinson, Valiquette are our free agents. I think this is the entire list unless we have Kasparitis. I think we own his rights, but it does not look like he will play. Jagr needs to stay. I have a feeling Avery is going to ask for a lot. He won't be able to stay. Straka stays if Jagr stays. Shanahan will stay. The Rangers will keep Roszival, but he won't have the same line. He will be on a short string. Everyone thinks Malik goes, but I like him over Roszival. Mara will stay. Strudwick might not be on our squad next year, but he gives us depth. Valiquette will be our backup goulie unless be find a much cheaper option but that doesn't appear to be happening.
Jagr-3 year deal.
Straka-3 year deal
Shanahan-3 year deal
Roszival-1 year deal
Malik-1 year deal
Mara-2 year deal.
Strudwick-1 year deal
Valiquette-4 year deal
Other possible free agent signings: Sandis Ozalinch (high doubts), Mike York, Brad Isbister, Brian Rolston, Marian Hossa, Owen Nolan
Line 1: Jagr, Dubinsky, Straka
Line 2: Hossa/Rolston*, Drury, Shanahan
Line 3: Prucha, Gomez, Alexei Cherpanov
Line 4: Sjostrom, Betts, Dawes
*-Hossa might be expensive and Rolston is only slightly cheaper. Owen Nolan is cheaper than Isbister and York. Sjostrom can be a reserve to let another one play and Prucha can move down a line.
Pair 1: Paul Mara, Marc Staal
Pair 2: Fedor Tyutin, Dan Girardi
Pair 3: Michael Rozsival (to add some scoring), Marek Malik
Reserves, Ryan Callahan, Ryan Hollweg, Colton Orr, Jason Strudwick, Christian Backman, Fredrick Sjostrom (If we sign 2 wingers)

I apploud you for trying to work the off-season out, but its so tough to do...I'm not the biggest fan of what you have done here, so I'm gonna toss out my own little off-season here...
I can live with Jaromir Jagr for 2 more seasons, as he has said he would only sign a two year deal, because he wants to return to the Czech Republic...We must re-sign Sean Avery, if his health checks out, which you did not have us doing...We need a QB for our PP, and no one would fit the bill like Brian Campbell...Those would be the three main priorities for this off-season!!! I also think they can sign Straka to a two year deal...There is no way Marek Malik will be on this team next season and if we sign Campbell, Michael Roszival is a long shot on this team...There is NO WAY Ryan Callahan plays as a reserve next season..
I don't agree with you on Brendan Shanahan, as he really showed his age towards the end of the regular season...I love his leadership, but this is Chris Drury's team now and he will assume the role as the verbal leader, while Jagr leads by example...
Next year's lines should be as followed...
Line 1 - Brandon Dubisnky, Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka
Line 2 - Scott Gomez, Ryan Callahan, Sean Avery
Line 3 - Chris Drury, Petr Prucha, Nigel Dawes
Line 4 - Blair Betts, Fredrik Sjostrom, Colton Orr
Defensive Pairings should be as followed...
Pair 1 - Brian Campbell, Marc Staal
Pair 2 - Fedor Tyutin, Dan Girardi
Pair 3 - Paul Mara, Christian Backman/Jason Strudwick
The one guy I do like for the Rangers to sign is Brian Rolston, as he is a machine on the PP and could take the place of Petr Prucha on the Drury line...I'm not sure how much cap space they will have!!!

I also would be opposed to having either Christian Backman or Jason Strudwick being our extra defenseman and having Bobby Sanguinetti make the Marc Staal jump from the OHL to the NHL...Bobby is an assist machine, Sergei Zubov style!!!

Listen the Rangers are only going after Jagr, Straka, Shanny, Strudwick,Rosevelt. If Jagr doesn't sign they may go after Hossa. And maybe Campbell Mike York is done NY. Isbister we had 2 seasons ago and sucked. Rolston will probaly stay in Minnesota. And No Sandis Ozlich we had 3 seasons ago and did nothing, And we don't need Owen Nolan. And we need to trade Prucha, Backman
before the lockout when the rangers spent all their money on FA they sucked we don't need many great players beacause looked what happened to lIndros flopped

I'm not sure why you're kind of down on Roszival. I think he played extremely well for the Rangers. I was also quite happy with the way Backman played. He was better than expected, showing he wasn't averse to taking the puck on offense. I thought his judgement was pretty sound based on the chances he took to keep the puck in the offensive zone.
While Avery made plenty of mental mistakes with his no look passes (not sure why he seems to like the drop passes so much), he's definately a spark for the team and (like Jagr) he should be re-signed if his demands aren't too high.

Ok I'm going to put my 2 cents in here and I also agree it is very hard to predict what will happen in the offseason as a lot depends on who other teams in your division are sigining. Just look at last year once Briere went to Philly the Rangers went and grabbed Drury. So here goes my thoughts:
Resign Jagr because the Rangers need a high scoring winger. I would like to see the Rangers sign Orpik as he would be a big tough defenseman who will knock people down. Malone is a free agent and he could be a good second line winger. Then resign Avery, Mara, and Roszival. But Roszvial would be my last signing and only if they couldn't find someone better or if he is asking for too much money.
My roster would look like:
Avery-Dubinsky-Jagr
Dawes-Gomez-Malone
Prucha-Drury-Callahan
-Korpikoski-Betts-Shojstrom
Reserves: Orr (for physicality)
Staal-Mara
Orpik-Roszival (or maybe someone from Hartford--Sanguinetti or Baranka?)
Tyutin-Girardi

well I think that Shanny is done with the Rangers even if he doesn't retire. While he does bring leadership to the team, at times he just looked exhausted out on the ice. While Prucha didn't have good numbers this year, I must admit I love the way he plays the game. He'll go in and hit a big guy or receive a hit and just bounce right back. He even makes good plays and steals the puck away from defenders. I also think that he would be good on a PP like in his rookie season, but he just didn't get the ice time there. Given that if he can be traded in some kind of a package deal to get back a D-man then I'm all for it.

Brendan Shanahan is prolly gonna retire he looked to tired out there. I do like the Brandon Dubinsky, Sean Avery, Jaromir Jagr. Avery should be a failry easy resign hopefully with the opening void left by Marek Malik's 3 mil plus Shannys 5. Marc Staal, Paul Mara, Fedor Tyutin, Dan Girardi, Michal Rozsival, would be perfect 5 plus with another addition possible addition of a FA defender or the two good ones we got sitting in the minors. Back to the lines.....Chris Drury and Nigel Dawes together along with Scott Gomez and Ryan Callahan plus two more new additions to compliment those two. Hopefully at least one good scorer like Marek Svatos, altho he is a restricted FA. Fredrik Sjostrom or even Korpi could be the filler for the third line. Our fourth line is just fine since it is exactly that...a good hard working checking line altho i would like to c Colton Orr a little more.
I knw it may seem a bit all over the place LOL

There are several defensemen that are FAs this off-season. First off, as bad as Rozsival is defensively, he needs to be re-signed. Malik should be gone, as he has zero physicality, offensive skill, and plays little to no defense. Mara played well in the playoffs, but the Rangers should only re-sign him if he is willing to take a pay cut (3M last year). I am not sure if Strudwick is a FA, but I think he should leave as well. Backman is under contract for next season.
The forwards for the most part are aging and should no longer get contracts longer than 3 years at a time. Jagr did not get his option picked up, which means the Rangers would have to pay his full contract for next year. He should be resigned and may take a hometown discount to stay with the Blueshirts. Marty Straka, in my opinion, is going to retire, despite the Rangers playing two games in Prague next season. Brendan Shanahan declined a bit and did not have his usual durability this past year. I see his being resigned for around the same price (1 year, 2.5M). Getting Sean Avery back is also necessary for the Rangers. Freddy Sjostrom provided energy and a little bit of offense for the 4th line.
As for Stephen Valiquette, he is a good backup goaltender who could spell Hank once in awhile. I don't think the Rangers should go after Olaf Kolzig, who is not returning to the Capitals for 2008-09.
The biggest weakness for the Rangers was their power-play. Brian Campbell is a free agent and the Rangers HAVE to sign him. He brings a physical presence to the Rangers defense and is consistently good. Dion Phaneuf got a 6 year, $40M deal from the Flames, so I see Campbell demanding around the same range or a bit higher. With the salaries of Kaspiratis and Malik gone, as well as Straka, the Rangers will have plenty of cap room to sign Campbell. Here is an example of what Brian could bring to the Rangers.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard is also a free agent who could play both center and wing. He had a great season with the Wild, but could be very streaky.
For a list of upcoming free agents for the 2008 off-season, here is a link:
http://www.nhlnumbers.com/freeagents.php?team=none&pos=C&status=none&type=none
Overall, here is what I think the Rangers should do:
Re-sign: D Michal Rozsival, RW Jaromir Jagr, LW Brendan Shanahan, LW Nigel Dawes, D Andrew Hutchinson, LW Fredrik Sjostrom, G Stephen Valiquette
Walking Papers: D Marek Malik, D Jason Strudwick, D Paul Mara
Sign: D Brian Campbell, Pierre-Marc Bouchard

i forgot to mention on the "Walking Papers" section that LW Marty Straka should not be re-signed. He is a good player, but I am about 90% sure that he is going to finish his career in the Czech Republic, his native country and that will start in 2008-09.
The Rangers defense, which was very inconsistent would consist of this...
Michal Rozsival, Brian Campbell
Fedor Tyutin, Dan Girardi
Marc Staal, Christian Backman
The lines would look like this...
LW Sean Avery, C Brandon Dubinsky, RW Jaromir Jagr
LW Brendan Shanahan, C Scott Gomez, RW Pierre-Marc Bouchard
LW Nigel Dawes, C Chris Drury, RW Ryan Callahan
LW Fredrik Sjostrom, C Blair Betts, RW Colton Orr
Finally, the goalies:
Starter: King Henrik Lundqvist
Backup: Stephen Valiquette
