I agree -- laughed my patoot off at the accuracy of some of the "fans".

I recognized myself right away as (1) with a little bit of (8) because I grew up upstate and was not made to choose at a young age.

Agreed. Great article here. Boston fan here, and this article applies to Sox/Pats/Celtics bandwagon jumpers as well. I honestly love having an intelligent baseball argument with a true yanks fan, but as soon as yanks fan pulls out the 26 championships thing, he/she has lost all credibility with me. Conversely, a fair-weather red sox fan will pull out the 2004 smack to compensate for their lack of baseball knowledge.

I liked the article, not because I give a crap about the Yankees or Yankee fans, but because I thought the piece was applicable (at least in part), to fans everywhere.  Had a Rangers fan wrote this about the Yanks it probably would not have generated as much criticism.  However, it being a Bosox guy..

I couldn't agree more.  This article was supposed to be funny and a way to show that there are true fans out there who aren't the loud mouths idiots that grace too many of these columns.  It was nice to read this.  And I also sgree that it applies to every team in every sport.  As a Yankee fan nothig iritates me more than hearing a BoSox fan saying "we won in 2004, when was the last time you won anything?"  I'm equally iritated at the know it all Yankee fans who feel the need to remind everyone that the team has won it all 26 times.  A "true" fan can have an intelligent conversation with a true fan from any other team.  My 2 best friend's in college were a Met fan and a Red Sox fan, I enjoyed going to Fenway and watching a game, as much as i enjoyed watching a game at Shea.  However being a Yankee fan i was always a little more excited to see my team play, but it's all baseball and it all rocks.  Go Yanks.

Great article.
