Let me first say that I would be leading the charge for George Karl to get fired. He couldn't get this team to hustle every night, he couldn't get this team to pass the ball and he couldn't get this team to play defense. Those are three of the biggest things a coach has to do and he didn't do them. But, let's face the facts, the Nuggets have decided to keep Karl. That being said, we have to change the team someway somehow from last years team. So let's break down the major pieces: Kenyon Martin is not tradeable with his huge contract and shaky knees. Not to mention he was not the problem, the guy played Kobe Bryant very well and is a better passer than most on our team. Marcus Camby is probably gone. Again though, he is not the biggest part of the problem. He does tend to shoot bad shots (an 18 footer from a 40% shooting center is not a good shot) and occassionally he gets frustrated with the rest of the team and quits playing positional defense. Again though I will say that losing Marcus Camby will not fix the problem. Next we have Anthony Carter. The guy is not a part of the problem discussed above, but he is also not talented and skilled enough to be a starting NBA point guard. Now we are down to Carmelo and AI. They are very similar in the fact that offensively, they can be unguardable. Defensively, they take plays off and can't stay in front of their man. These two players are almost exclusively responsible for the Nuggets bad defense. It is frustrating to me to see two guys that are so quick, yet get beaten every time down the floor by slower guys. So one of them has to go. AI is older and can't play the point. That means you have to have a bigger number 1 in the game (which we don't have) so that we don't get abused on the defensive end. AI also has the tendency to dribble and then dribble some more and then keep dribbling and then force up a shot. This kills the team chemistry as know one likes to watch one guy dribble the whole time. AI is in the last year of his contract and holds decent trade value as he puts fans in the seats. I say we trade him for a young talented point guard.
What do you guys think?
(sorry this is so long)
