Let me first say that I would be leading the charge for George Karl to get fired.  He couldn't get this team to hustle every night, he couldn't get this team to pass the ball and he couldn't get this team to play defense.  Those are three of the biggest things a coach has to do and he didn't do them.  But, let's face the facts, the Nuggets have decided to keep Karl.  That being said, we have to change the team someway somehow from last years team.  So let's break down the major pieces:  Kenyon Martin is not tradeable with his huge contract and shaky knees.  Not to mention he was not the problem, the guy played Kobe Bryant very well and is a better passer than most on our team.  Marcus Camby is probably gone.  Again though, he is not the biggest part of the problem.  He does tend to shoot bad shots (an 18 footer from a 40% shooting center is not a good shot) and occassionally he gets frustrated with the rest of the team and quits playing positional defense.  Again though I will say that losing Marcus Camby will not fix the problem.  Next we have Anthony Carter.  The guy is not a part of the problem discussed above, but he is also not talented and skilled enough to be a starting NBA point guard.  Now we are down to Carmelo and AI.  They are very similar in the fact that offensively, they can be unguardable.  Defensively, they take plays off and can't stay in front of their man.  These two players are almost exclusively responsible for the Nuggets bad defense.  It is frustrating to me to see two guys that are so quick, yet get beaten every time down the floor by slower guys.  So one of them has to go.  AI is older and can't play the point.  That means you have to have a bigger number 1 in the game (which we don't have) so that we don't get abused on the defensive end.  AI also has the tendency to dribble and then dribble some more and then keep dribbling and then force up a shot.  This kills the team chemistry as know one likes to watch one guy dribble the whole time.  AI is in the last year of his contract and holds decent trade value as he puts fans in the seats.  I say we trade him for a young talented point guard.

What do you guys think?

(sorry this is so long)

i totally agree, AI needs to go. They guy plays NO defense and cherry picks. Not to mention he takes sooo many shots and just dribbles the ball so dang much.

Im not doubting his talent, AI is one GREAT player, but i dont think he's for this team (especialy if he is playing point). He needs to be in his shooting guard position. Melo will thrive when AI leaves.

The quesiton is, will anyone take AI? it took him a while to get out of phili.

Great comments guys!  Finally some reason, hopefully the Nuggets brass reads this board.  The leader of the team is the one that makes the team go.  If he passes the ball then the team will pass the ball.  If he plays defense then the team will play defense and so on.  AI has put Melo's maturity as both a player and a person in regression.  He needs to go!

AI could be so great if he just learned how to stay in front of his guy and pass.  The problem is that he can't do either of those and so I guess I agree, he needs to go.  George Karls needs to go as well!

While I agree AI has been bad for our team, he's unfortunately not going to be traded with that fat contract of his. He has the option of opting out of his contract for his final year, but he won't do that either. Nowhere else could he get anywhere close to the $20 million he'll get from Kroenke this year as a Nugget. I just don't foresee any scenario where a team will choose to add a ball-hogging guard who can't play defense for $20 million. He'll play out his contract with the Nuggets this year and most likely sign (at a reduced pay) with a contender for the final years of his career - probably all one to two-year contracts.

I'd like to see the Nuggets bring in a dominant point and play JR Smith at the 2 next season.  He is too damn good to have coming off the bench.  Plus he is a pretty good defensive player.  I would rather lose AI than Melo.  Not that I don't like AI but as pointed out earlier, he is not a good fit.  He has to play the 2 but is unable to defend the opposing 2.  I hate to see him go but I think it is better for the team in the long run.  I know that a dominant 6th man is required but I think Smith would help more as a starter vs. being the 6th man.

On a side note, I would really hate to see Camby go though he may be our most tradeable player.  His defense will be missed if in fact he is gone.  He is not the most offensively gifted of centers but he normally plays tough D.  How many other games this year would opponents have put up 120+ if Camby wasn't patrolling the center of the lane?

AI does have to go as much as i do hate to say it.
we could trade him and Kmart to the Knicks for there first round draft pick?
do u think they would think about that trade we could draft a young talented PG who likes to play defense and pass the ball and we can mold in to an affective NBA point guard
tell me what you guys think,

GO Nuggets!

I agree. Maybe we can do a sign and trade to get Beno Udrih or Jose Colderon I would love to have ether of them in exchange for AI
