I am willing to give up a couple years of winning to see Indiana return to respectability.  Hopefully the Indiana faithful get behind this guy and this team.  HOPEFULLY the powers-that-be at IU can be patient as well.

No one expects us to win the Big 10 next year and I think everyone is excited with what Crean is doing.  He keeps locking up recruits that will likely be in Bloomington for 4 years and can grow together.  The late recruits he has gotten for the coming season are quality  players and he is making a lot of headway with the 2009 class.  I am actually excited for the future.  I am glad Crean is bringing back the student-athlete to Bloomington.

I'm an Illinois fan.  On one hand I couldn't be happier to see the mess at Indiana created by Sampson.  I laughed hard the day the news broke.  On the other hand, I love the Illinois - Indiana basketball rivalry.  I would love to have both programs on the upswing and battling each other.

Bruce Weber has been bad at recruiting so far, but his 2009 class is outstanding.  I respect Tom Crean and know that he will get the Indiana program on the right track.  Hopefully our two teams will be playing some meaningful games sooner rather than later.

I particularly like the quote of Creans friend in the last parapgraph? Does it sound familiar Hickory (Milan) fans. Sound an awful lot like Norman Dale's speech to the student body during the pep assembly before the first game. The students were chanting "We want Jimmy, we want Jimmy, we want Jimmy." Ring a bell?

Crean is doing the right thing, just like he did at Marquette. And to be honest, this situation may be bad for the next season, but if Crean can recruit like people say he can, overall it is a great situation. He can go into a top tier recruit's house and promise him a roll in the starting lineup right away. Not every school can offer that (many can, but not all). If packaged the right way, Crean can turn the 2009 Hoosiers back into an immidiate powerhouse.

I am glad to see that there is at least one Illinois fan that partially respects the glory of Indiana and wants to see competitive basketball within the Big 10!

Patience is not a virtue that is often associated with IU basketball, neither the school administation or fans.  They want to win and win now and win big and no matter what the consequences.  Thats why they went with the quick fix with Kelvin Sampson and it worked, they were winning. But the end was the mess that is there now.   IU fans arent going to be patient, they know good basketball and if what they see isnt good basketball they wont be very forgiving.

Have you not been paying attention? All over the boards IU fans are saying they know this year will hurt, but that they will come back fighting in 2009.

Although IU wasn't patient with the hiring of someone to replace Davis, it was more because Davis really wasn't performing up to par with the players he had. I don't think they were right to hire Sampson, and I know several alums who were outraged when he was hired.

IU is owning up to their mistake by rebuilding. The administration will be patient with Crean - it's a rebuilding project! No one does it in one year. Hoosier fans won't be thrilled next year, most likely, but they know the best is yet to come, and they are much better off without the players that transfered and that have been dismissed from the team.

Crean is trying to re-establish greatness at IU, and return the good name and high standards that used to be set by this program. It's going to take a few years, everyone knows that. So quit talking about people's impatience.

Patience is not a virtue that is often associated with IU basketball, neither the school administation or fans.  They want to win and win now and win big and no matter what the consequences.

That's just nuts.  Bob Knight never incurred an NCAA penalty.  Most IU fans were outraged when Sampson was hired.  Mike Davis' tenure was the beginning of the current APR problems....

Knight wasn't producing great results during his last 5-6 years in Bloomington, but he was fired for failing to operate within the zero tolerance policy not because he didn't win enough games.  Davis took IU to the National Championship game with Knight's players then, within a few short years, led them to their first losing record in over 3 DECADES.  He produced neither winning teams NOR academic success.  And, of course Sampson is a cheater.  So, in 35 years IU has purged one coach for not winning...what a history of athletic failure intolerance.  The other two dismissals had nothing to do with winning, they had to do with not licing within certain established rules.  How does that equate to IU wanting to win "no matter what the consequences"?

I have not heard one IU fan say that Crean doesn't deserve the time needed to turn the ship around.
