This is a huge weekend for the Cardinals to really increase their division lead over the Brewers and Cubs.  We have a strange four game set with Brewers which oddly ends on a Monday night game???  Usually they roll four games from Thursday to Sunday, but this is not the case.  Downfall for us Birds fans is that we actually have to face Ben Sheats this time.  I love the Cardinals in this series and think we can take 3 of 4 from the Brewers.  Also let's not forget the Cubs play the Arizona Diamondbacks and their wicked pitching staff.  We can seriously jump ahead of the Brewers this weekend, and really get a good lead on those darn Cubs, who have been playing pretty poorly lately.  What do guys forsee this weekend?  What about the Cubs/Backs series?  Go Cards!

i see the Cardinals taking 3 of 4 but i would not be surprised if we only take 2 of 4 because the bullpen.  I also think Ludwig needs to keep on starting he has prove him self with the bat and is on a hot streak.  Hopefully the cards bats come around after two games were they didnt hit the best minus ludwig.  it would be nice for the d-backs to sweep the Cubs.  I think after this weekend we could be up by four games.

This series is a real opportunity for the Cards to put Milwaukee in a hole here early on in this season. A 3 out of 4 series would give the Cards a 7 game lead over the Brew crew and a sweep, however unlikely, would give the Cards a 9 game lead. Kick a team when its down as the Brewers have not been playing well lately. As far as the Cubs/D'backs series goes, I can see 2 out of 3 going to Arizona, the Cubs catch a major break that Webb is not going for them. I second the playing Ludwick, ride a guy until he cools off and frankly, Duncan does not deserve a spot out there right now the way he is playing.

The Brewers have lost six in a row and they are ice cold. If we can take advantage of that and our bullpen can hold up we could take 3 of 4 from the Brewers.  With that in mind, The D'backs are taking on the Cubs which i believe that they could take 2 of 3 from them(Zambrano pitching).  Hopefully after this weekend we can be 4 games.  GO CARDS!!

sliverback-

I see our Cards at least taking 3 of 4 from the Brew Crew as long as Izzy isn't run out there to get the save. I'm sorry, I just don't have but little confidence in Izzy right now. To me, Izzy's being overworked and we can ill afford to have any blown saves in this series especially. Not when we have a chance to get a bit of a good lead in our division.

I did a little bit of research into Ben Sheets and I found out that in the last 3 games that he started he averaged 5.36 innings per start and he's only averaging 4 K's per last 3 games started. If this trend carries over into this series against our Redbirds, we should get a good chance to get past him and get to the Brewers bullpen. I hope it will not be the downfall that you spoke of.

I also did some research into Carlos Zambrano. In his last 3 games started, he's averaging 7.0 innings, 3 BB and only 3.66 K's per start. That's not a good walk vs. strikeout ratio. Also, lefties are hitting .260 against him. That said, it's possible that the D-Backs could very well get to him.

All of this said, it's very much possible that we could end this series with a serious 9 game lead.

GO CARDS!!!!     68

Like you I can see the Cards taking 3 of 4 as long as Izzy doesnt have a couple of blown saves.  I think Larussa needs to give Izzy a break and give someone else a chance to close out the games. Something is wrong with Izzy other than he is overworked. I think that he has started over thinking his pitches and doing that when you are a pitcher only leads to even more problems. Anyone remeber John Rocker and back when Ankiel pitched, once they got off in the head that was the end of there domination on the mound. Izzy just needs to get centered agian and soon or we are in for a very long year.
