The argument is normally about how the SEC is the best conference in CFB because they are so balanced "top to bottom". In 2008 I don't believe this will be the case.
For 2008 you will have something like the following:
- UGA= OSU, USC, Oklahoma, and > WVU, Va Tech
- UF= Mizzou, and > Illinois, ASU, South Florida, Clemson
- Auburn = Kansas, and > Whisky, Oregon, Connecticut, BC
- LSU < Texas, and > Penn State, Oregon St, Cincy, Wake Forrest
- UT < Texas Tech, and > Purdue, Cal, Rutgers, Miami
Now since I can't claim to know the middle and bottom half of the Big 12, Pac 10, and Big East, and ACC I will compare to the Big Ten in 2008.
- Bama < Penn State
- Miss. St < Michigan St
- Arkansas = Iowa
- SC = Indiana
- UK = Northwestern
- Vandy > Minnesota
- Mississippi
So actually while I was comfortable saying the SEC was better at the TOP, I'm actually second guessing myself and looking at the Big 12's top half as possibly being better. Interesting.
The middle and bottom teams though will be no better than the Big 10 in 2008.
Conference Verdict?
SEC (not by much over the Big 12, and maybe not at all)
Big 12
Big 10
Big East
