Fingers crossed.

Forte is already one step ahead of Benson in that he doesn't have an attitude like a used diaper!

A rookie mini-camp isn't exactly a mountain of evidence but he impressed Lovie comfortably more than any other player which is a good sign. I hope and believe he'll be the starting back by mid-season.

He should be the starter.  Forget Cedric Benson.  but you know how Lovie Smith is.  The best option for the team isn't necessarily the person he'll put on the field.  And what's worse is he'll actually stand by his decision even though the whole world is telling him there's a better option.  Matt Forte is already 10 times better than Cedric Benson will ever be.

Your right Mouf,

Lovie will stubbornly stick by Benson at first, its the way he is. Anyone else instantly thinking Rex Grossman here?? Hopefully he'll get Forte in there before it costs us too many games.

If the Bears just give the kid the chance he deserves, they will have a running game equal to the pre-Cedric Benson span (which was pretty darn good).  Gosh knows they need it since the QB situation has not improved and the receiving corp moved downward.  Defense and an above average running game is what fans came to expect of the Bears - since that didn't happen last year, maybe '08 will be different.

I hope '08 will be different, but Rex Grossman, Mark Bradley and corp are not going to scare anybody.  They will def. be putting 8, hell even 9 in the box against us everytime.  I don't see Forte rushing over 750 yds this year.

I hope wins the job before preseason is over.

Go Bears!

I'm not so much as into looking to the RB as opposed to the improvement in the OL

Drafting Williams, Beekman being healthy, still having a great center in Kreutz ... it starts upfront.  The RB or any skill positions, while they get the praise or "fantasy stats" ... owe alot to the OL.  Forte is a RB so I have tempered expectations.  The NFL is a different speed and there will be adjustments from the teams he's used to playing against in Tulane.  His success will be determined on how he adjusts and how the OL holds up.  Even AP in Minny has a all pro tackle to run behind in Hutchinson.

As a Bear fan, I'm pretty happy with the pick ... but with the recent troubles with Benson is it more of a reason just to replace him and move on or is it that you saw Matt Forte in college were huge fans and know his skills?  I'll be the 1st honest Bear fan to say its the 1st reason.  I didn't know much about Forte until 3 or 4 months before the draft until I googled him.  Case in point, Garrett Wolfe had a more heralded college career and I was excited to see him in a Bears uniform but he hasn't done much in the league yet.

I'm in the wait and see point ... and maintains it over a period of years.  Remember Salaam and ATrain having good 1st years, actually Rookie of the Year awards.  Sustained production as opposed to 1 good year, as a Bear fan I'll be happy if I get that from Forte
