Plantation American Heritage basketball coach Danny Herz said UM ''has a legitimate chance'' to land junior guard Kenny Boynton, the state's leading scorer the past two years and rated No. 7 nationally by rivals.com. A late-summer decision is expected.

I have been trying so hard to temper my enthusiasm with this kid. I keep telling myself "we won't land Kenny Boynton, we won't land Kenny Boynton" so that I can avoid the disappointment or be so pleasantly surprised if he does choose us. Because my head tells me this kid signs with Duke, but I keep hearing that Miami is in the race with him.

I live right by Heritage and can tell you this kid is a real college talent. He will have to develop better PG skills for NBA hopes because he's undersized for a SG unless he can really dominate scoring in college like he has in high school, which is certainly possible. There are a few 6'3 shooting guards in the NBA, but they have to be really special. But that's all way ahead.

Until then, I'll keep my hopes low, but will still keep my eye on this closely. It would be so huge for us. SO huge.
