I can't believe that the A's are still this low in the rankings. They have been a consistant team that stayed near the top of the American League. I can't believe that the Dodgers actually surpassed the A's in the ranking. One week they get hot, and now they fly up the charts. You gotta be kidding me. Also, why are the Yankees still 10th. They have a horrible record, especially for a team as good as they are. Now, I have a good feeling that the only way Oakland can get into the top 10 in the rankings is by winning 50 games in a row, because you hate the A's, and you are doing everything to try and keep them out of your top 10, even though they are very good right now.

I agree, The A's have a low ranking because you anticipate they are going to fall off. Well that sort of defeats the purpose of your rankings. Put them in the top ten now and when and if they do fall off then you can drop them as easily as you can give a team a 12 spot jump in the rankings. To rank someone low due to speculation is ridiculous, and completely takes away from what they have accomplished thus far.

Yeah, right!!! You are talking about Oakland!!! While they have been okay so far this season they are by no means a top 10 team! Who knows, but I seriously doubt they will ever be a top 10 team this season.

You're kidding me, right? The Athletics 'have been okay so far this season'. That is a tremendous understatement. They haven't been the best team in the league, but they have played well enough to be one of the top 10, and possibly a top 5 team.
Their pitching has been stellar, possibly the best, and their hitting has certainly been sufficient. They've busted out some double digit wins and some close wins. That's what good teams do. If they'd done it with a single winning streak, then I might agree with their detractors. Because they've done it with steady play I can't see keeping them down in the rankings.
I'm not worried though. The longer they keep this up the more obviously ridiculous these rankings will be. Those of you who say the A's aren't a good team better start cooking that crow. I'd hate to see you have to eat it raw.

Dead right. I can't tell if these ratings are projections of who is good, who should be good, who they think is good that isn't.......
Is there a point to these, other than to promote similar inane comments like these?
BTW, the Angels won 2 of 3 from the Sox, in Fenway, and are rated lower? Any explanation? Telling me that Santana, Saunders, and Lackey aren't going to take down the Sox?

I wonder what the order of team salary is on this rediculous list. That must help to facor in? On that note, the A's highest paid player is on the DL with no solid return date. Over the past several seasons the A's have had one thing most teams dont - clubhouse chemistry... (the Red Sox have it + talent = game over). Minus last season they have been in the hunt for the past 8 years while letting go MVP's and All Stars along the way, and no one really notices. The A's are one of those teams that could come out of "nowhere" and steal it.(see:Marlins/Rockies)

I agree that the Athletics should be higher. A more realistic ranking of a team with the third best record in the AL and their caliber of hitting (tied 3rd in AL) and pitching (best ERA in MLB) would be 6th to 8th place. The only reason I would place them that low is because their defense has been suspect so far this season and their hitting has not always been consistent.
And to piss off the Yankee fans (since they're the closest to the Athletics in the rankings)... What have the Yankees done so far this year that is deserving of a Top 10 spot? All they've done is play .500 ball and spend $209 million for their .500 team. Am I right?
(Back me up everyone else so the hoard of Yankee homers doesn't descend upon me like a flock of rabid, man-eating, pin-striped grasshoppers.)

These Rankings must be a joke, Mets 4th in Division, struggling to play .500 ball (16-15)get a top 10 spot. Same With the 3rd in their division Yankees 17-17. Same with Atlanta 16-15... PLEASE STOP WITH THE EAST COAST BIAS!!!
It's not a 'fluke' anymore, this Oakland team is going to compete. The only reason I don't believe we should be in the top 5 is our awful defense and the inconsistancy by which we score (if we don't score in the 4th inning, its gonna be a long game)... The A's have the 5th best record in the league and are only a game back of the red-hot Halos. The A's, on the strength of 2-out rallies, have propelled themselves to 5th in the league in runs scored, while maintaining not only, the best team ERA, but both the best starting ERA, and the best bullpen ERA in the league. We should be in the top 10, no doubt...the A's got hosed...
