Twins fan here. Just had my first opportunity to watch Johan Santana this year in Sunday's game. He looked a little shaky but he does EVERY year in the early months. As we get closer to about mid-June his fastball will creep up to about 94-95 and he'll dial in that change-up and slider then look out. I'm sure he's looked good in some of his outings but he WILL get much better as the year goes on. He has a knack for making good hitters look foolish doesn't he? I know, I know some of you are saying, "shaky?", but when I come back to chat in August you'll know what I'm talking about. He becomes devastating.

PS  Thanks for Carlos Gomez...that kid makes every game enjoyable to watch just with the excitement he brings...loose cannon...love him! He leads-off (always steals) and plays CF.

Good luck

I agree Santana's last start was "shaky", most likely his worst start of the year. I guess he's allowed one every now and then. I still smile when someone brings up that trade or his name for that matter.

Glad to finally hear some positive feedback on a prospect the Twins got in return. Wait until his bat catches up to the league. He's a little behind due to skipping AAA., but player make the jump from AA a lot.

He stole 2nd and got drilled in the side of the head with the throw but he's ok. Fun guy to watch. He's responsible for about 10% of the Twins runs this year either directly or indirectly. Gives pitchers the shakes.

I can't tell you how good Santana will be.....sucks he isn't here but you'll see. He didn't win 2 cy-youngs for nothing. He WILL get much better with the warmer weather. That change-up.....they know it's coming but they don't know when. I'm on your side Mets fans...my favorite player all-time was Gooden...been a life-long Twins fan but when I was a kid my parents had the first satellite dish (8 feet across) and I watched every Mets and Bulls games because thats all we got. I cheered for ya in '86 (when I graduated) and every year since. The Twins won in '87 and '91 but I've always cheered for the Metsin the NL.

Don't be discouraged Mets fans...you have a great team and the games BEST pitcher....again.

You might get arguements from other teams ,but ask them again in August/September.

Santana  will be the man.

(I still find myself amazed everyday on this message board: How fans like the above and fans from Philly can cohabitate in the same place is beyond me)

I've been watching the few Twins games that were on ESPN this season and Gomez is looking great.  I liked him when he was a Met because he was like a Reyes in the outfield.  I really hope he does fantastic for the Twins.

That being said - I'm impressed with Johan Santana so far.  Yes, he gives up far too many homers but i'm taking your word that he will get even better.  On paper, we have a dominating, offesive power-house that rivals that of any team.  In reality, we have a lot of underproducing power hitters and sleepwalking pitchers who aren't earning the arbitration salaries.

I'm not bitter or upset about 2007.  I put that behind me before the season ended.  I'm a fan of the present and future, therefore I expect good results...in the present and future.

I was always a big fan of speed,  so I always liked Endy, Gomez, and obviously Reyes.....  I was little upset to see Gomez go,  and hope he does great.

For what it's worth, this my my two cents as a lifetime Mets fan.

I am extremely disappointed in the performance of our team so far this year. It almost seems like they're going through the motions. What happened to Beltran's proclamation as "The Team to Beat!"? Where is the leadership that is needed to take this team to the next level. Is Randolph even awake during the games or is he sleep walking?

All the pieces seem to be there, but they're just not putting it together. You cannot justify the fact that our payroll is 6 times what the Marlins is and we have to look up at them in the standings! That's called managing with what you have and making it work!

The fact of the matter is the guys are expected to produce because of their enormous salaries. The only players exceeding expectations are Church, Smith and Figueroa. Everyone else has been a huge let down.

Don't even try to blame it on injuries. We all knew Alou, El Duque and Pedro, were all going down at one point or another this season. And Castro gets injured every year also. So these were things we should have expected not counted on.

There is almost no clutch hitting on this team(Ex. 13 LOB last night). Everytime Delgado comes up with runners on it's pretty much a rally killer. He must be the most overpaid .200 hitter in all of baseball next to Giambi! Beltran isn't any better . His stats are not what we expected for the $$$ we paid. We could have gotten 20/20 production for a lot less money! And when is he going to stop swinging at breaking pitches completely out of the zone? It's like watching the 06 NLCS everytime he bats. Please someone forward this to Wright, "Stop swinging at sliders away!" That's their out pitch against him and it's like watching an instant replay everytime! Reyes has not been Reyes since Randolph had the talk with him over the Winter, thanks Willie for ruining one of the best players in all of baseball! He's 24 y/o and needs a good manager to coach him! Manaya needs to wake up and smell that steaming pile of crap that Randolph is before things get out of control. Wilpon didn't pony up the big bucks to watch his team play .500 ball.

Ok, Ok, so you say it's early. Well it's never to early to start playing good fundametal baseball. How many errors are Wright and Reyes going to make on routine grounders (12 errors betweens the two of them). You keep that up and you're looking at 50 between the two of them. It seems they have a world of potential if only they could get better guidance. Delgado has 3, and Castillo 2 (yes the same guys who went a whole season without making one)! For the love of the game please Delgado take more infield practice. It's embarrasing watching routine grounders go through your legs or right by your glove. You could actually try diving once in a while! He can't field and he can't hit, how much longer are we going to have to suffer watching him? It's Kaz Matsui all over again!

The pitching really is a mess. No starter has been reliable. Santana gives up 3 hits a game, but they're all homeruns! Maine, Perez, Pelfrey all inconsistent. The bullpen looks good on paper. But Heilman loves the longball and Sosa has caught the same bug. Willie really does use them at the wrong time everytime! He just doesn't manage his players well. I don't even think they like or respect him. I'll give credit to Wagner, Smith, Schoeneweiss and Feliciano. They've beed consistently good.

I'll be watching the game today @ 3:00. Let's hope the Mets show up and not the Mess that it's been. Getting swept by the Dodgers isn't something to scoff at and say we'll get 'em next time! How many next times do the Mets really think there is going to be!!! It's time to get hungry and go after them with that swagger and knockout instinct required to be a champion!

Why is the Mets SP so bad...Johan was a waste, all they gave up was an all star in gomez to get an overrated aging bum in Santana...that trade will be one of the worst the mets ever made when it comes down to it...THEY NEED SP     people are stupid who think they need hitting their hitting is the best in the league but their SP and bullpen SUCKS...lets get some starters in here to get the team goin and help out the offense!

you guys have no idea what you are talking about..the Mets need young starting pitching they should trade bums like johan delgado beltran n wright for some excitement..they are going no where with those guys...reyes maine n pelfrey are the only bright spots of this team and the only guys worth watching!  they need cueto, volquez, and some other youngsters to do something...

what do u mean. young pitching doesnt equal wins automatically. johan was a great trade so just stop bro, ur makin a fool of urself. reyes maine and pelfry are bright spots, ur right. but u forgot wright, u forgot pagan. teams dont win w just young playrs, u need a mix of young and talented and smart savy veterans. ur obviously a young kid who thinks he knows a lot but in turn knows every little. just relax bro, johan will b great and this team will b ok. just chill out
