The Tigers will take off now that "Jock" is unemployed. He is a parasite in any lineup.

He's like Pedro Feliz or Corey Patterson.  He has a good glove and has, in the past, shown a little bit of power so all of a sudden stupid managers and GM's think his generally poor OBP can be put in their lineup.

Leyland can complain all he wants about the line up and the hitting, but it is pitching that wins games. He would be better served to shake up the entire pitching rotation as they are not getting it done.

Actually, this will finally put the spotlight on just how bad Sheff is these days.  He can't hit because he only swings for the fences with his eyes closed.  He always leaves men stranded because he isn't a team player trying to create runs.  Left field, hat upside down, hopping on one foot, rabbit's foot in his pocket, sheff is a dud.

True, Jones was dull, if anything; can't really say anything bad, just not exciting numbers like so many of the others on the team.

Jacque Jones is not the reason why your pitching sucks and has nothing to do with Sheffields batting average or the errors Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen has been committing. The team as a whole is playing bad overall.

Jones, in one year for the Twins, was the lead-off hitter. He hit 11 or 12 first-pitch homeruns. That is how he had power. The first pitch, the strike. And he just swung his hardest.

Jones isnt a bad baseball player. I'd say he is better than Sheffield. Easily. Maybe not hitting, but all around.

Jacque Jones was there to play defense, hit .265 and bat 8th or 9th. He was never expected to be a stud hitter, he was the second best defensive OF on the team. If Cabrera  & Guillen quit giving runs and maybe the Tigers had traded for pitching instead of Cabrera they might be winning. 11 errors out of 2 All Stars at 3B is horrendous. With Verlander & Bonderman looking like they belong on the Marlins(Ouch!!) and a lousy BP they are in DEEP trouble. Pitching and defense win Championships, look the Rockies played great D and finally got good pitching and Boom there in the WS!

Miller & Juirjens will be missed for the next several seasons. Dombrowski needs to shore up the BP ASAP or the Tigers will be a joke at the next winter meetings.

If you think Jones is not a bad baseball player, you obviously don't know anything about baseball.

He is a terrible player and has no place on major league roster.  Especially considering there are literally dozens of guys in AAA that are better players than he is that you could pay the league minimum.

He has a career park adjusted OPS+ of 99.  100 is the league average.  Which means he is slightly worse than league average over his entire career.  Last year it was 87.  This year it is 38!  He is a waste of a roster spot.

Listen, I am not saying that pitching, especially starting pitching is not a very important component to a winning team, especially in a short series, but you imply the Rockies made the WS with all pitching when that is flat out incorrect.

Last year the Rockies were 2nd in the NL and 5th in MLB in runs.
They were 8th in the NL and 14th in MLB in ERA.
If you want to use runs, they ranks were the same.

How come teams like the Mets, A's, Atlanta, and Minnesota make the WS when they all had better pitching than the Rockies last year?  Oh yeah, the offense.

It is not hard to look this stuff up.  Please leave the cliche "pitching and defense wins Championships" to coaches and lame sport writers.  It takes pitching, hitting, and defense to win.  I know this seems obvious, but I don't know why it isn't.
