Ryan Miller has proposed a new rule during his stay on the competition committee.  All teams have to have a back up that doesn't suck.

Geez....way to pull something out of your butt just to start a new thread.

Has anybody actually taken the time to think that maybe it's not the goalies in the backup role but rather that the goalie coaching is lacking?  Think about it this way:

Thibault's overall numbers aren't that bad:  He has a lifetime Save Pct. of 0.904 and never got a chance to play this year.

Ty Conklin went to Pittsburgh this year where he went on an absolute tear with that great team in front of him.  So maybe Miller doesn't need a better backup.  Maybe he needs better personnel up front and a Front Office that has a better penchant for identifying real talent (such as they should have pursued Briere instead of Drury and at least they would have had something instead of the nothing they had this year).

Biron:  in 2 seasons as Miller's backup he tallied a 33-12-9 record and has soared this year in Philly as we all know.  And because the Front Office again couldn't make a GT Tandem work, the back up that didn't suck got traded.

Again, there are the last 3 backups and they are all pretty decent in my opinion.  But their abilities were misused and best skills mismanaged, in my opinion, by the goaltending staff.  Just one more example of why Larry Quinn is running this team into the ground.  I think that maybe shaking up the coaching staff a little bit would have more of an effect on this team than by going out and getting some great backup goalie.

Besides, if they didn't suck a little, they probably wouldn't be backups in the first place :)

What the Sabres need are good defensive defensemen.  Jay McKee was one of the best defensive defensemen in the league while he played for Buffalo.  He didn't get a lot of press because he didn't score 50 or 60 points a year, but I cant think of too many players I'd rather have in front of me if I'm the goalie than McKee.  The Sabres don't have anyone that even comes close right now.  They have some good all around defensemen, but they don't have anyone who is willing to leave it all on the ice defensively.  That's what Ryan Miller needs.

Absolutely, Bills123Buff! Losing Jay McKee was huge. We lost grit on the blue line, and replaced him with Jaroslav Spacek, who is reminding me more of Alexei Zhitnik every time I see him play. McKee was a great leader, and he made everyone around him that much better. During the playoffs three years ago against Carolina, shots were not even reaching Ryan Miller because the Sabres blocked so many. Since McKee left, I don't see guys go down to block shots as often. They just stand up straight and hope it hits them.

Yeah buffaloaggie, during that series against Carolina, 4 of Buffalo's starting defensemen were unable to play in game 7 due to injuries, including McKee, had Jay McKee played, no way would the Hurricanes have won that game.  There is no doubt in my mind the Sabres would've won the Cup that year.  I hardly ever see any Sabres block shots anymore since McKee left, he was highly underrated.

Bills123Buff , So ,  instill   of   changing   the   offense , that   the  Sabres  use , to   defense    didn't    enter  Ruff's   mind ?  No ,  it   didn't .  He   used   the   same   play's   and   got   burned .  From  the   hockey  school ,  lose   too   many  people ,  go  to  the   " D " .  This   season , Ruff    didn't   use  T-Bone ,  and  Miller   got   over worked . He   even   said   that .  It's    time   to   go  in  a  different   of   direction ,  with   a  new   coach .
