I suppose I just find this thread a bit humorous because it wasn't that long ago that people on this board wanted him batting 3rd in the lineup, based on his "power potential" I would assume.  He's been dropped down in the order, the proper course of action in my opinion.  Anything more, for example benching or demoting, would be knee-jerk.

Joneziah, from what I've seen I'd call him a pretty average outfielder with a very good arm (which would usually make him a better candidate for RF, but we already have a good arm over there).  But we also have to bear in mind where he is playing a lot of his games.  It ain't easy out there, I lose balls all the time when I have seats out on the HR porch.

This whole thread kind of seems rediculous to me.  Delmon Young is clearly a major league talent at the plate and an asset as opposed to a liability in the field, unlike Kubel, or Monroe.  He should be afforded every opportunity to succeed.  I love the hindsight on the Mike Lamb comments....  Fact of the matter with Lamb is that he is hitting .175 with nobody on, and now .421 with runners in scoring position.  The guy isn't playing great by any means, but he's been pretty clutch knocking in runs this year.  That being said, clearly at this point Tolbert and Punto have been playing themselves into the lineup, and should be rewarded with some playing time, but Lamb and Harris are the guys we brought in to help offensively, so I think we'll just have to keep running the platoon in the infield like Gardy's been doing all year basically.

I couldn't agree with you more Mhazard.  We can't forget that the kid is 22 years old in only his second season in the majors. Thats not all that bad. He is a talent, and needs to be in the lineup everyday. The power numbers will come, I don't see them being in the 30-40 range like alot of experts predicted, but more in the 18-25 range. Only time will tell on the power.  Lets remember this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Twins. And only because the Tigers and Indians, Native Americans have been a disappointment so far are the twins tied for first place.  No one should even be thinking of sending him down to the minors. Kubel and Monroe have their roles as do Tolbert and Punto, so lets stick with what has worked up to this point. Maybe a more pressing matter is now the bullpen with Neshek on the Shelf for what looks like the year.  We need the Crain train to get back to his old form or someone else will need to step up quick.

I think the Twins, as well as most as MLB teams, go up and down quite a bit. You know, hot/cold spells. As for Delmon Young,  I hope he is only on a cold slide that will begin to warm up here hopefully quicklike. I don't forsee Gardy and crew sending him anywhere for a while. And I myself will agree on the Jason Kubel / Craig Monroe thought you had, they are doing pretty good right now. Young is probably got some stupid slump he needs to shake off and get the ball rolling.

GO TWINS!!

Everyone shut up...

Young, Gomez, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddy, Kubel, Tolbert, Blackburn, Baker....people forget the future of our organization are all in their mid 20's or younger.  I dont want to hear about "should we send this guy down...", "is he a right fit..." blah blah blah...

We are winning the central with a bunch of kids that could almost still be in college, its only getting better from here...

Don't send him down...I need his Bowman Sterling 2004 Rookie Auto/Bat card to go up in value...and that's only gonna happen if he produces at the major league level...as for that dual Auto card of Mauer/V Martinez serial numbered 7/25...Joe's jersey number and the 2nd AL catcher to win a batting title???   Nevermind...

I agree that he's young and stuff... and I'm willing to be patient. But isn't his ZERO homers in 148 at bats a little alarming?

He DID have an enormous power outage from June 23, 2007-August 27, 2007 too (a span of 239 at bats)... still finished with 13 jacks. The power will come, but it's pretty annoying that he hasn't hit more out. And it really doesn't seem like he's close to finding a power swing either. Just a billion singles. Which is sort of ok... I was hoping he'd do more to take Hunter's place, though.

It's definitely nice to have a productive bat in the order though.

Yeah, all his hits being singles kind of surprises me. At least Mauer hits the gaps and gets doubles. He's producing runs at a rate less than Brendan Harris and Nick Punto yet consistently gets more at bats than anyone. And for all of those who say lay off, it's early, the season's a quarter of the way through. If the Twins are trying to win the division they should rest him when others are contributing better. And Kubel and Monroe aren't that bad defensively either.
