Should he be benched or sent down if he doesn't start performing offensively or is it still too soon? Jacque Jones was just sent down by Detroit and he's making like 7 million this year. Kubel and Monroe are both hitting considerably better than Young right now.

There's no way he's going anywhere (truth be told I'm not sure they even can send him down, but not gonna bother to look it up).  It looks like he's hitting nearly .300 over his last 7 games so I don't even see a reason to consider benching him.  Yeah we're expecting better numbers, particularly in power.  It'll come around.  It should also be noted that Jacque Jones was "designated for assignment", this is not the same thing as sending someone down to a minor league affiliate as they can't do that to a player with as much mlb experience as Jacque Jones.  They will either be releasing him or trading him.

Maybe you give him a day off against the next tough righty we face, couldn't hurt. Send him down you must be joking. He's batting .263 in a league he has only been in for little over a month. He is playing great defense.

I'm glad your not the Twins GM.

I never said I want him to be sent down. I'd be in favor of having him sit a game or two while other hitters are performing better. This team needs to score runs. Monroe has just as many RBI and a way better SLG in less than half the at bats. Sometimes players need to feel some pressure to get their bats going. I believe Gardy benched Morneau a couple years ago in Seattle when he was underperforming and he went on a tear from then on.

It's too early to make a rash decision.  He is adjusting to a new team, and the season is just over a month old.  I certainly would like to see his power numbers improve, but I wonder if benching him will mess with his head.  The guy has had problems in the past, so I think you have to show confidence in him and let him build on his good performances.

And the last time I checked the Rays were in the American League, so although he is in a different division, he has seen all of these teams.

And Jacque Jones...I'll pass.

I don't think that there's any way that we send down Young.  Even though he hasn't put up the offensive numbers of Monroe or Kubel, he's too valuable to our team to bench him or send him to the minors.  He's a much better defensive player than Kubel or Monroe, and with his arm a potential double is either an out or a long single.  Also, he brings something else to the plate and that's speed.  Kubel and Monroe aren't going to steal many bases at all and Delmon already has six this year.  He'll start driving in runs soon enough and that .263 batting average will rise as well.  He's too good of a hitter for this to keep up for long....stick with him.

I agree with the common sense approach that this is a young and still building team.  Delmon Young needs to work this out in the majors, as he has proven he can hit at this level.  I do think he should be benched a bit more often, against the tough RHP as previously suggested.  Hopefully that brings his stats overall up, the Twins get better overall production out of the position - which is what really matters - and he has a chance to sit in the dugout and watch and rethink his batting approach.

No need to bench him, he will turn his number around. We got other guys to worry about more then Young, Lamb is hitting .216 with no homers, at least Young plays good D. Lamb worries me more then Young.

I agree Delmon Young should be sent down at least Triple A and Jason Kubel should start at LF and Craig Monore DH
