Burb - CP3 is a great player, but I would never take him over Kobe or Jordan to start a team.  People used to talk about how much Stockton made everyone better and how he'd be a great player to start a team with, then it was Nash's turn, now its CP3. The difference: Kobe and jordan 9 titles, Nash, Stockton and CP3- 0.

I'm a little curious if you'd be so sure of your playoff chances if West were gone. Its easier for you to compare your 4th possibly 3rd best player with the Lakers 2nd. Plug in a big man and the Lakers and Kobe led the West, Both with Bynum and Gasol. Kobe is the constant, so he deserves more of the credit.

Jason - Get a life. You sound like someone stole your lunch money.

I would perhaps be less inclined if it were West, but I was just comparing like positions. I would however stand by CP as the hub of my team. Kobe had a shot to prove he was the main ingredient but failed. Shaq won. I personally think 2's 3's are easier to find. There are a lot of guys who will give you somewhat close production to Kobe if you allow them to shoot the same number of times..NOT the same but close enough. A 1 is tougher to get that has the consistency and explosiveness of a CP at 23 yrs old. Also I don't think CP has hit his lid yet..I see room for growth. so that's why I say that. Another arse with an opinion

Not trying to disrespect Chris Paul, I think he is the best Pg in the league and will be for years to come, just don't think he got cheated. I realize you were comparing like positions, but I could argue the Lakers ARE the 1 seed without their center and the Hornets weren't with theirs. In a perfect world, Gasol will be the PF. Bynum the Center.

I don't care how good the parts are around you, to be the 1 seed this year in the West with  the roster changes(Trevor Ariza, Pao Gasol) and injuries (Bynum, Gasol, Walton, Ariza, Odom, Radmonovich, Mihm) the Lakers had is impressive. Kobe Bryant was the one piece they could not have afforded to lose.  Thats the mark of an MVP, being the best player on the best team even with all of the trials the Lakers went through.

I don't mind hearing arguments for Paul he was also deserving, but to say Kobe didn't deserve it is crazy.

I will grant you that Chris Paul is an awesome player. I love watching him play. I look forward to the Hornets playing the Lakers. I hope Chris carries his team past the Spurs.

MVP is called the Most Valuable Player. It is how valuable a player is to a TEAM. It is not only about stats.

With shredded tendons in his fingers that require surgery, Kobe Bryant has had to carry the Lakers on his back while other starting players were getting knocked out of mulitple games or the season by injuries. The Lakers still don't have their starting center Andrew Bynum. In a perfect Laker world Bynum is healthy and playing center while Gasol plays forward.

Chris Paul has had a healthy David West, Tyson Chandler, and Peja Stojakovic  almost all season to dish the ball to. They are all great players.  When Chris sits down, New Orleans can still beat up teams. When Kobe sits down, the Lakers are in trouble.

Tyson Chandler was 2nd in the league in field goal percentage(62.3), and Stojakovic was number 3 in 3pt field goal percentage at 44.1%. David West is an All-Star. I am not trying to take anything away from Chris Paul, but these extremly talented guys do a great job in helping Chris get those assists.

Chris is going to win in the assist category because he is a POINT GUARD. Point guards are supposed to have low turnover ratios and lead their team in assists.  He is in charge of dishing out assists.  In fact he led the league in assists, thanks to having great HEALTHY players surrounding him. Kobe was "only" in the top 20.(19).

There is of course scoring. Kobe was the number 2 scorer behind LeBron James.(LeBron was number 9 in assists tied with Iverson by the way)

If you want to base the award on stats and stats alone, I think you should give the award to LeBron James or even Allen Iverson over Chris Paul. By the way Kobe had more blocks per game than Chris Paul as well. Kobe had about 40 this year and Chris had maybe 6 or 7. Kobe was number 7 in the league in free throw attempts at 9.1. This means he was being hacked away at as he penetrated or dished.  Chris was at 4.9 and number 40. Who do you think took more punishment? By the way Lebron was number 2.

Kobe also played in every single lakers game injured or not, and led the team in minutes played. He also led his team in shots attempted. I As I said before he was second in the NBA behind LeBron James. By the way this league is about the SCOREBOARD.  Without Kobe Bryant, how many points do you think the Lakers could have put on the scoreboard?  Now how many points would a New Orleans team without Chris Paul put up?
