Wise HAS been considering a transfer and as is still undecided. The UA staff has been working hard to keep him - met with his family while at the Kingwood Classic - but I think they're waiting to see what will happen with the coaching staff. And, there's been a lot of debate on this board about next year's starting lineup, and the one thing everyone agrees on is that Jennings will be the starting PG. Most people agree that Wise is not a prototypical SG due to his size, and you know those things are on his mind as well.
I think he'll end up staying, but it could still go either way...
I know I've said this before, but I think Wise would be making a mistake leaving the program. He's not going to play in the NBA. He needs to understand that. What benefit comes from sitting out a year and moving to a lesser school? If he's considering a transfer to a team with a legitimate shot at winning a title that would be one thing, but I don't think that's what's on his mind. Even though I object to his starting next year, there's a high probability that it will happen. And the season after he will be the starting point guard, even with Gaddy coming in. I think it's in his best interests to stay and concentrate on doing what he can to help the team. But if he does leave I don't think it will hurt the program that much. I think that's where you two and I will disagree.
Thanks Hosh... any idea what schools he's considering? I mean obviously, he just doesn't want to get screwed over with PT and I don't blame him... this kind of reminds me of the Will Bynum situation a little bit... I don't think it would be good for the program... not detremental, but it would hurt our depth and and leadership...we all saw the strides he made last season (losing weight, imporved defense, improved jump shot, and imporved confidence) and I would really like for him to stay, partly because I don't think any of us would want to play him... maybe not an NBA player, but who knows.. plus there's so many opportunities to play professionally (overseas even) that he will play somewhere...
You're right, AZCATSFAN, that the one point we disagree on is the impact Wise leaving would have on the team. We'd miss his energy, his quickness and his ability to hit the big shot. He was one of the top 3 point shooters in the league last year and was near the top in steals, but just as critical was his penchant for stepping up and knocking down a shot when we needed it most. That said, I think we're all in agreement that it would be in his best interests to stay at UA.
I'd heard he was considering Baylor. They're improved, and not far from home.
He could play alongside CJ Jerells (spelling?) there i guess... I love that guy.. he can shoot it... i guess it would fit Wise's up tempo scoring style too...If we think Zona doesn't play D... Baylor plays zero defense... they play about as much D as the denver nuggets..lol
I hope that he sees Jennings coming in as a plus in staying.... With the depth of the draft I expect Budinger to come back... With CB back as well as Wise, Jennings and Hill it appears that this team could be a lot more competitive than it was this year.
I understand that some of this is projecting a best case scenario, but I think it is at least reasonable to see Budinger back(no agent), and Wise staying put.
I like Wise, and hope that he doesn't transfer. I am a big fan of his and would love to see him back. With him, and if Budinger comes back the Wildcats have a legit chance to win the Pac 10. there lineup would be Jennings, Budinger, Hill, Wise, and Horne who will improve a lot in his second year.
