Here's the problem.  When a non-BCS school is deserving of a chance at the NC (I'll agree, there is usually only a handful of teams deserving), they get shutout by the opinion polls.  Utah may have been deserving that year, but there were three other schools in the mix and only two slots for the NC.

If ECU ran the table this year, it likely will have beaten the Big East and ACC champ to get there and won its conference, but if the SEC and Big 10 have unbeaten champs, ECU is left out.  Because there is only 2 slots, sure they play in the BCS, but thats not the point of playing, to win a bowl, its to win the NC and if you schedule your way in and win all your games, you deserve a chance. 

But there's only 2 slots, not 10, 2 slots for the NC game.
