To get more respect.  I see so many posts on these boards and in blogs here that discount him over and over again.  Have the Mavs been successful in the Playoffs the past 2 years??? No but it's not all his fault.  And to call him old.  The guy is just hitting his 30's.  He's got heart, and he's not as "soft" as people keep claiming he is.  Is he a lock down defender, no. But he puts in the effort on the defensive side of the ball. The man is an all-star and former MVP give him his due!!!

I agree he is the team. With out Dirk and Cuban we would be back at the old reunion arena watching crap basketball. The guy is the only one who cares and gives 110% each night. He has hit big shot after big shot and if he didn't make that 3 point play in SA 3 years ago we wouldn't of made the finals. Don't listen to Dirk haters the just hate themseleves. Dirk is a MVP and the mavs only all-star on this team. There are to many people on here that hate the mavs and don't even follow this team. We need to get the true mavs fans back and get rid of the people who rout for another team and then come on here and bash this team.

It doesn't seem like he will ever get any respect.

What gets me the most is the idiotic idea that he chokes in the playoffs.  Anyone who has looked at his numbers knows that is stupid.

Career Regular season averages: 22.4 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.0 BPG
Career Postseason averages: 25.3 PPG, 11.1 RPG 2.5 APG, 1.3 SPG, 1.1 BPG

Anyone who is a fan of the Mavericks knows that he is the team.  Without him they would be a .500 team at best

Dirk has to ask Cuban to get a leader in the metroplex. Dirk is like Robin with no Batman. Dirk is not the type of player to take control of a game. He would rather take orders instead of give them. You have to put the confidence in your team if they don't have it which they didn't against the Hornets. I am sick and tired of the Mav fans steadily getting behind him and defending him when the team bows out of the playoffs early. Yeah Dirk scores about 26 points, but they don't mean as much because they don't come at the crucial part of the game. This is the problem, No other team has the best shooter on the team as the number one option. (If they do they aren't any good anyway) Other teams has the BEST playmaker as the number one option. Dirk is not that. Josh can create his own shot, and if he doesn't he will create a shot for someone else. Having Dirk as the number one option causes a problem because in the 4th quarter when there are about 5 minutes to go other teams throw out the playbook and goes to their playmaker not the best shooter. Since Dirk can't create that well they have to keep calling plays to get him open. That is too easy for teams to stop when they can predict what going to happen because they saw this play in the 2nd and 3rd quarter.

Then what is Lebron and T-Mac and AI. They haven't hit the big one and Dirk has made his fair share of clutch shots. I think you should go get video on the playoffs when this team made the finals. It doesn't get better then the first 3 rounds. I remember Kobe shooting air balls in the playoffs now he is the best in the game and when him a Shaq teamed up champioship after champ. This team needs another playmaker, I guy who can create off the dribble I know that. But don't call out Dirk for his play it is above anybody elses. Did you just say nobody else has there best shooter as there number one option, I missed that a second ago. That was the dumbest thing I ever read and I shouldn't finish this post. T-mac, Kobe, AI, D. Williams, Paul, Mano, Chancy, Pierce, Nash that is all I will do because they are the best shooters on there team and they all have a number two option which dallas needs not number one. Last one Jordan best shooter and player oh Bird damn there is more. Get a number two not a number one.

I think this postseason proved that Josh can't create his own shot or get the best shot to someone else.

Dirk does need to be surrounded by other great talent, but also, it needs to be talent playing in their prime. People keep saying Dirk chokes, but before these two post seasons, he got out of the first round, what, five years in a row? That's not always choking. He was surrounded by talent in its prime though. JET and Stack are passed their prime, Harris hadn't hit it yet, and that helped cause last seasons first round loss as much as Dirk getting completely swarmed. This year, they traded for Kidd who is WAY past his prime and Josh turned into the Most Disappearing Player.

Also, you have to give the Hornets credit. They are playing as a true team and are going to knock off the aging defending champs. If Dirk is surrounded by more talent in their prime, the Mavs will get out of the first round again, 'nuff said.

To bad Dallas was dumb enough to let Nash go, he made Dirk better. As Paul Allen found out... money can't buy you championships
