although not as important (to non Patriots fans) I think will be interest to see the competition for backup (and eventually replacement of Brady?) QB job between Matt Cassell (who has done well so far in relief) and Pats 3 round pick of SD State QB Kevin O'Connell http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/draft/1245617

Pats spent a high pick on him when they had other needs so they must have seen something - he has good size (6' 5', 225) and played for Chuck Long

what does everyone think?

Agreed, it's not front page like many of the other position battles but I think Kevin O'Connell is the real deal. Most likely Kevin hold a clipboard as the #3 guy this year, but with Cassell due to come off contract at the end of next year Kevin goes to #2.....and dare I say become the successor to Brady........The Pats must love him, not too many people had him going so high.

I was surprised at the O'Connell pick, mostly because I have always been enthusiastic about Cassell, but from what I've read this guy could become at least a solid back up.
You forgot to mention Matt Guitierez who the patriots signed as a rookie free agent last year.
Guitierez looked pretty good in limited action last season, but will probably be a long shot to make the roster this year as the pats wont carry 4 Qbs.
Its almost a shame Brady didnt get sidelined for a game during the Matt Cassell back up era, as the pats might have been able to showcase him for a possible trading chip. With this being his last year under contract I doubt the pats will reap any reward out of Cassell, and I doubt he will resign.
I can see Cassell signing with another team that does not have a solid quarterback and competing for the starting job.
I'm just glad we can enjoy worrying about who will be the backup quater back and not have any concerns about the starting QB job.

As an SDSU grad I'd love to see Kevin O'Connell earn a clipboard.  He has accuracy issues but the guy is a football player.  I like Matt Cassell because his brother pitched for my Padres last year, but that is about all he brings to the table.
