I see several posts on the board spouting off, calling Doyel an idiot for his article.  However, the guy is spot on!  Let's use some common sense in evaluating his argument.

1.  A team does not trade it's bread and butter unless there is trouble in paradise.  Either the player is leaving as a free agent, he is unhappy and bringing the rest of the squad down with him, or he is getting old and unproductive.  Those of you who pointed to Boston as a shining example of the anti-Doyel argument, have not looked deep enough.  Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen may give the Celtics a good year or two, but Jeff Green will be a star in this league for the next 15 seasons.  They gave up MUCH more than they got back.

2.  Doyel is simply stating the obvious in his arguments about Iverson, O'Neal, and Kidd.  When Phoenix traded Shawn Marion for the Diesel, even the most casual  of NBA fans knew what that was going to do to the full court, high flying circus ball they play in Phoenix.  He is simply stating the obvious that Shaq is old, fat, slow and trouble.  Shaq has eventually wore out his welcome where ever he has played.   His selfishness blew a good thing in LA with Kobe Bryant.  He could have won multiple championships, but was too selfish to share the limelight with Kobe to do so.

Al Iverson has never met a shot that he didn't like.  The guy is a gunner!  He is more concerned with presenting himself as an inner city thug,  than as a leader or a team oriented player.  This guy could care less about key fundamental elements of winning basketball like passing, defense and finding the open man.  He is perhaps the most selfish player to play in the NBA since World B. Free.  Iverson is a cancer where ever he plays.

Jason Kidd is probably the best  of the three.  Father Time has finally caught up with his game.  Kidd hs nothing to be ashamed about as he has given his team and fans several good seasons since his amazing recovery from micro-fracture surgery.  It was an easy decision for the Nets to make, as they weren't going any where with or without Kidd.  The problem with Dallas has been there long before Jason Kidd arrived in the Lone Star state.  Dallas just isn't made up with the right blend of chemistry and talent that it takes to win playoff games in the NBA.  Nowitzki is a great player, but just doesn't get it done.  They need to clean house and start from scratch.  Get rid of anyone who can't or won't play tough man-up defense.

There really has been few trades of superstars in the NBA, where a prime time guy gets moved without some  sort of negative motivation.  Most teams only trade their stars when they have worn out their welcome to the point that sending the guy packing is a relief for the players, the management and fans alike.  Doyel was spot on and if you didn't think so then you aren't paying attention to what is going on in the game.  In fact, his observation was a bit of an understatement if anything.
