you have to go with pennington look at the numbers, pennington did more with what the Jets had, clemens seriously didnt show any flashes of anything as far as im concerned pennington has been in this position before he knows how to win the job in training camp and i think he will.. just remember when we have a good team around pennington he is a top notch qb and his arm is stronger than people say, remember the bomb to coles in the Bengals game? yeah that was at least 40 yards. at least he threw touchdowns clemens just stood there bow legged and got sacked every second he has no neck thats why hes short and his style is disgusting , pennington is way more experienced and accurate and i think mangini goes with him.

07 stats

Chad Pennington 179/260 1765 yds 10 tds 9 ints 68.8 cmp% passer rating 86.1

Kellen Clemens 130/250 1529 yds 5 tds 10 ints 52.0 cmp% passer rating 60.9

pennington did better with what we had and hes the better qb, he should be our starter. id rather ainge start than clemens not even joking. just think about

I'd be shocked if it isn't Chad after the pre-season.

I was just as excited as everyone else to see Kellen Clemens get his chance last year; and it was the right move since our playoff hopes had been crushed. However, Clemens showed me NOTHING. He was awful in my opinion. In the New England game, he goes down on the first play, and then Pennington came in and the team battled.

This new look Jets team is going to have to win on defense. On offense, we need Alan Faneca to straighten out D'Brickashaw Ferguson (who sucked) and we need to establish the run with either Thomas Jones or Leon Washington. Personally, I'd rather see Leon Washington with the ball. I don't buy into all of that small back bullsh-t. Play them until they drop. Running backs are a dime a dozen. It all starts on the offensive line. D'Brick and Mangold have GOT to get back on track. Faneca has to teach these guys how to run block. Then you can play action with Chad.

I believe Mangini when he says the QB will be determined during the pre season, whoever gets the nod will get it because he has shown that he wants it more, and can carry this team through the season. The worst part of it for us is that Pennington would be starting if not for the surgeries, the one thing we must look for is if he has progressed or regressed during this off season. I still think we have a lot to see in Clemmens yet, and that he knows this. he's no bum, in fact just the opposite, he would have taken the beatings for the entire year without any protection from the lousy line we put both of them behind. My opinion is that we have two QB's of great character, will to succeed and desire to be the best. Chad we already know about, he would try and play if you shot him, he's just a man of immense pride who has been dealt a piece of crap hand with those injuries, but they are with him forever and unfortunately he will only continue to get worse. I'm not knocking him . I just wish he had never been injured because we would have our trophy or be going for it this year, but the truth is what it is, and Chad will never be the top of the line class QB he once was, will he win the starting job this summer? He damn sure can, because he has the guts and brains and experience to work with and get the most out of the tools he has. I just feel that Clemmens has much to offer also, his greatest advantage is that his entire football career is still in front of him, it's still an open book that he will have the chance to write the story for. Can he come in and win the job. Absolutely with him also, and to me thats a great thing, both of them are men full of pride and character, and even though we know Chad well, he just very well may make this his swan song year, win the starter job and push himself beyond all possible limits to win, no matter what, Clemmens can't lose here. If Chad is the starter, then he gets a great year to learn and grow. If he is the starter then he must put what he's gotten so far to use ASAP and to still be a student of Chad, either way the Jets will show that we are a team of great character and we will win more than we lose. Go Jets

damn plr_rogues you always leave me inspired every time i read one of your posts haha your good man, anyways i agree with you... it all really comes down to weather or not chad has the will and the physical ability to pull it out, i honestly think that if chad can start this year  and win, then it helps clemens and even ainge in that matter in the long run considering what chad has been through it  would be the most inspiring thing ever if chad could lead us to the playoffs and for our young qbs to be able to sit back and watch it could only be a good thing for the future of our franchise.. i love the Jets i hope we can return to being a good team this year so bad, yeah ive been drinking and things are more emotional but damn't any jets fan on here cant tell me that when they drink that they are more passionate about the jets and there hopes of being a championship team become a reality. go Jets, i hope someday i can come to NY and see them play.

plr_rogue I gotta agree with you.  Both of these guys have immese character and desire, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a winning QB.  I hope that it does in this case but I don't think it will.  Chad and Kellen are both stand-up guys who you never hear a bad thing about.

One thing that everyone is forgetting is the kid the Jets drafted, Ainge.  I think that he may have a shot at it also.  If Mangini says its an open competition then I think that, after what he showed last season, Clemens will be the 3rd string QB. Chad will start and Ainge will be back-up.

But hey if any of us knew what was really going to happen we would be coaching the JETS.  Now there's a thought.

In my eyes, its a two man battle with Erik Ainge sitting and learning for a couple of years...I really feel like its gonna be Chad Pennington's job too lose!! There is no way the Jets keep around a Seven Million Dollar Back-Up...I really think he is gonna have to play real poor this pre-season for Kellen Clemens too start!! The team has built the O-Line to protect the QB and open up holes for the running game and starting Kellen is a trial, while we would know what we are getting from Chad...Everyone complains about his arm strength, but we don't have the deep threat at wideout anyways!!!

So I'm saying my Week 1 favorite is Chad Pennington...

I'm sorry guys but how can you still have stock in Chad?  He couldn't do it with the best team we might have every had.  Why do you think he can do it now with another surgery on his arm it's just crazy to think that he can do it.  He had his time.

If we continue to lean on this guy we are making a big mistake.  The change has been made.  Mangini has to stick with it.  With Chad the game gets so easy for opposing D's it ridiculous.  They stack 9 in the box against him not 8.  But 9 guys.  That is a joke he can't throw outside the hashes or any 8 to 12 yard curls cause they get picked off time and time again.  We just built a great O-line why are we going to cause failure by having a QB who poses no deep threat?  If Kellen is the guy those safeties won't be 5 yards off the line of scrimmage and CB's won't be playing the 2 yard patterns.  And then jumping them for a pick 6.  Am I the only one seeing this problem with Chad please tell me I'm not!
