Who should be the new Knicks coach? Some of these guys haven't been let go by their respective teams yet, but don't let that stop you for voting for them. If you don't like any of them, tell us who you think it should be....

My vote is for Avery Johnson, a no-nonsense coach that is respected by the players. The Knicks are not smart enough to make that move though. Herb Williams has earned the chance due to his loyalty over the years and Mark Jackson and Patrick Ewing (who you left off your list by the way) bring back the ideals of the glory days. We need a good coach, not a memory!!!!!
Sam Mitchell, Flip Saunders, and Paul Silas are not worth the time to consider. The Knicks turned away from Flip Saunders a few years ago-for good reasons.
We should trade for Tracy McGrady and keep Stephon Marbury and sign either Johnson or D'Antoni as coach so we can then be the all-time not get pass the first round of the playoffs Team. That in fact would be an improvement since the Knicks haven't made the playoffs in many many years.

Umm what are you offering to Houston for T MAC?? T MAC is a career loser just like Marbury so I dont like that idea at all. I also don;t think its logical to take the wait and see approach on LeBron James who becomes a free agent in 2010. Dantoni is going to Chicago more than likely. Avery Johnsons is the logical choice with Mark Jackson 2nd.
Player wise Marbury has got to go. They need a playmaker in the draft and hopefully we get high enough to get Derrik Rose who is the best player in this draft. Please o Please do not draft OJ Mayo.

Don't know if you've heard, but there's a new sheriff in town, bro. I'm thinking Walsh is pretty smart. He's supposed to meet with Johnson this week, we know he met with Jackson like 10 days ago and supposedly he met with D'antoni last night. I like Avery over Jackson myself, simply because of the experience factor. He's also a no BS personality, and like JAX, he's a winner.
Herb Williams has earned the chance due to his loyalty over the years...
Now this would be dumb, this would be a Dolan move. You don't give someone a job because they've been around a while. What has Herb done that makes you think he can handle the job? You have to wonder if things would really change with Herb running the show....
and Patrick Ewing (who you left off your list by the way)
ok, I left the Big Fella off the list because he is probably the least viable of all the candidates being mentioned. You only get up to 8 choices when you do a poll and, sadly, Patrick falls into the 'Other' group. I wouldn't mind seeing him back at the Garden working as an assistant one day, though. For people to gripe about him not receiving consideration for the top spot is pretty absurd.

Unless you are getting a star PG like Paul or Deron back, or Wade or Lebron or someone young, no way you trade Marbury this year.
Let him play the final year of his contract as a Knick and then walk off as a FA after next season. The Knicks do not need to trade him and take on 20 million in yearly contracts that will likely go beyond next season.
The only other deal that would make sense is if they traded him to a team that has 2 expiring contracts equal to Marbury's. Otherwise teams will be looking to unload long term deals in order to get cap relief after next season.
I want to see Marbury go, but lets wait after next season where we just let him go and there are no new contracts coming back in.

The Knicks will continue to be horrible regardless who their coach is
Robray,
You don't see any knicks fans saying that the knicks will all of a sudden be a championship contender because of the coach.
The fact still remains this team has zero chemistry, plays no defense, does not have a single leader on the floor and can't shoot consisntently from the outside.
Until they start to correct those aspects of the game they will continue to be blown out in every 2 out 3 games they play. However, what a coach will do who demands the respect that Thomas, larry brown, or whomever have coached over the past 7 yeas did not is make this team play together. They will learn to play defense and they will be responsible for thier actions.
I can guarantee you that a mark jackson or avery johnson will not allow Jamal Crawford to let guys blow right by him on defense while chucking up 20 shots a game. They will pull him immediately for someone who cares about defense.
he won't allow Zach Randolph to sit there and try to take 20 ft jump shots everytime he touches the ball.
Knicks fans goals for the next year is to see this team grow together and play 100% every night and play defense. the rest will take care of itself in the long term, becuase we all know if that happens, the Knicks will be back at the top in future. the mets were a disgrace for a long time and omar came in and fixed it within a few short y ears. They didn't make the playoffs right away when they got beltran and pedro, it took time.
the knicks will tkae time to rebuild, no one denies that. Just don't take on any stupid contracts, which Walsh will not.

I really like Herb Williams, but when your team is this horrible do you really want to promote from within?? I wouldn't mind seeing Van Gundy come back, but he's taken his name out of consideration. He does, however endorse Mark Jackson, and so does Patrick Ewing. That's two pretty good references to have on your resume'!

No matter who is hired, the Knicks will not be competing for a title. They are a bunch of selfish, me-first drama queen babies who cannot play D or show any sort of chemistry. The leader of the pack is Babybury. Do not trade him--instead buy the last year of his contract out. We cannot afford to bring this cancer back. His actions off the court with Zeke was the beginning of the end of any chance this season, although we would have been pathetic anyway for the reasons in the first sentence. Isiah had to go and he was fired, but Cancerbury cannot return. Do not trade him for more scrubs with bad contracts; just buy him out. We are only responsible for him for a year anyway. If we end up drafting Rose, we cannot afford to have him mentoring him into a loser. We need a no nonsense guy like Avery Johnson who stresses playing defense to come in. Mark Jackson was a leader and good defensive player, but a team that is in bad of shape as the Knicks cannot afford a coach without any experience. Avery is a proven winner, going to the Finals and winning 67 games the year after. It was not his coaching that hurt him, but the fact he had soft players. Johnson will make this team more disciplined and make them play harder on D. Let the bad contracts run out, rebuild through the draft lottery which we will be a part of as the rebuilding will take a few years, and once we have money for quality free agents, we can sign one. Do not make any bad trades or signings and like Zeke, do not screw up in the draft like he did drafting Balkman over Williams and Frye over Bynum. And pick a competent, no BS coach who can control the players.

im hoping the Knicks dont hire dantoni i want mark jackson or the assistant from boston tom thibadeau. also herb wouldnt be bad but id prefer the other 2. knicks need a guy who will be in their face and teach these morons that defense is a priority if they want to win. dont get me wrong dantoni has a great offensive mind but it seems the Suns could never get over the hump because of their lack of defense especially in big spots (ie Spurs game 1) Also draft lottery is may 20 theres a chance we get number #1 i would love it we would have to take ROSE hes the man.
