I was just listening to The Golf Channel's 19 Hole.  A comment was made about Michelle Wie.  One said that they were through with Wie.  She had made a statement to the press, talking about  herself and finished  saying  It won't kill you.  They wondered  what she meant  by that statement, going on to say that at 18, she should be able to articulate better than that.

Are they giving Wie a fair shake?

I would need a little more info than is provided before I could comment on whether or not they are giving her a fair shake. As far as I'm concerned though, Wie has been a HUGE disappointment and is simply a non-entity on the women's tour; she should definitely never, never even think about competing with the men again.

Wie is a very sad case but a testament to the importance of mental toughness in golf.  She had (has?) tremendous ability but was told by way too many people how great she was for so long that her mind simply can't handle reality.  Even before she crashed and burned it was easy see in interviews that she didn't see reality.  She might shoot a 79 or 80, be near the bottom of the board and talk about how well she was playing and it was just a question of making a few putts or some other type nonsense.  Hello, earth to Michelle, "are you there?"

Her father is really and has really had a negative affect on her career. Her confidence is shot, why not try and dominate the LPGA instead of playing with the guys and get killed. I could be wrong here because I don't follow her that closely but Im not even sure she has her LPGA tour card. I lost a lot of respect for her when on hole 16 or 17 in a tournament she pulled out due to the rule of if you don't break 80 you can't compete on the LPGA tour for a year or whatever that rule is. Than she is seen on a range hitting balls 2 days later but couldn't finisher her round due to the pain of her wrist. I do really care to even watch her anymore, come to think of it I never really have either.

Michelle Wie is nothing more than a circus, a circus which is her father and rest of her family, side show.  She will never be any good because she is damaged goods.  Her sense of reality is so mixed up that she probably doesn't know black from white.

Someone said Ty Tryon.  Amen.  A sad look at both families shows how materialistic our world is to some people, when the long term mental welfare of their own flesh and blood is disregarded for "things" and money.

Michelle Wie is still a child.  Has she hit 19 yet?  She was thrust into the limelight and labeled the "next great American, woman golfer", at an age when most girls are only worried about school and boys.  Way to much pressure for a 15 year old girl.  Especially in Hawaii, where maturity takes a little longer to develop.  Lots of sunshine, beaches, local boys, tourists and a relaxed way of life, "Paradise Paralysis" as it is commonly known on the Islands.  I think the next few years at Stanford (away from her dad) will be good for her.  She will mature a bit and hopefully get involved with the right people to help direct her career.  There is no denying that she has enormous talent and (I still believe), potential.  I haven't given up on her yet, because she is a byproduct of her overbearing father.  Golf is a mental game and from what I have read and heard over the years, her father overwhelmed her with his expectations.  With the right type of support and guidance, she will still have a chance to flourish.  She has way too much talent to waste.  Somebody will step up to the plate and help her.

I think the next few years at Stanford (away from her dad) will be good for her.Unfortunately, as I understand it, her parents bought a condo near campus.  While she lives in a dorm, her father still has a pretty tight hold on her.  Sad case...

When Michelle was healthy and playing well on the LPGA, everyone was all about her plaaying on the men's tour.  The gallaries following her at the 84 Lumber Classic were ridiculous.  Her father had a lot to do with her downfall, but the media, and fans that bought into all the hype hurt her career badly.  Now a media hotshot "is all through" with her.  What hypocrites!

I'd love to see Wie live up to her potential in the LPGA.  The LPGA has a great young group of players and her playing well would add to that greatness.

ILG, when you asked this very good question, it made me think, has everyone or anyone for that matter, given her a fair shake recently?

She needs to spend a year with Tiger Woods.  His mental toughness would wear off on her...hopefully...and then you could see the true golf potential

Give Wie a chance. At 18, it's like play at the first two holes......one into the water and the next into the bunker, but there is still hope. If she was older, like 32 years, we can write her off professional golf.

Not at 18. No one should ever write anyone off so early. Hey folks, only sweet 18....that was soured by everyone....from parents, media, and everyone who follow Wie.

There is hope still. Just wait and see.

"The choice is hers......if she truly loves golf, then Wie will return!"

Wie is a product of over zelous parents.  I'm still wondering how she got so tall being that both her parents are pretty short.  Not saying she was given injections early but KFC does get big chickens with steriods.  Also think her confidance is shot by putting her in no win situations playing against the men.  A good friend of mine played two rounds with her in the US Publinks.  Said she was a nice kid and could hit it very long for a female.  But still there's questions about her attitude and confidance.  She is a spoiled athlete who was a product of her parents and the media.  She may one day live up to the hype but right now she's a very average player for a professional.  Let her be a kid and enjoy life.  Her dad certainly has enough money now.
