UCLA released statement today that Chase Stanback decided to transferred to finish his college career somewhere else. With smaller line up coming back and back court players coming in, Chase would sure be either playing for starting job or playing times. Obviously, just like Ryan Wright, he's not buying into Coach Howland's system. In a matter of one month after the season ended, the team got depleted in a hurry. Out of the players on the bench, Nikola Dragovich seems the one that most likely to transfer.

wow, we are so screwed next year. were gonna have more walk ons than scholarship players. i thought for sure that Stanback would be a starter next year. i cant believe that he would do this. he is finally going to be able to get PT this year, and now he will just have to sit out next year and delay his development. im not sure what he is thinking.

His mind set is to play like his Fairfax High School which open court with no tough defense. This is the same issue on why we haven't offered Renaldo Sydney. If Chace didn't want to play Coach Howland's defense, we can't force him to stay. Someone early this year said we may lose 5 players but we weren't expecting to lose Chace for sure. Now this off season, if Nikola Dragovich decided to stay, he will have to really carry the slack. This will be his 3rd year and we all hope he can contribute offensively.

Good riddance Chace. Go to some program where you won't have to play defense and where you won't have to work to get playing time. During your year off I hope that you find a place called the weight room but that too takes some effort so I doubt that you will bother. Young egomaniacs are not needed in Ben Howlands program. I would rather see players like Mata-Real and Josh Shipp who show up and give 100% . Looks like the Fab Four will see a lot of playing time in 2009.

GO BRUINS!

I agree with all of you guys--even though I'm getting bashed for agreeing more with alwaysMr.G in my first post last night while slightly inebriated (and more honest?).

I hate to see him go because I think that he was just starting to develop as a contributor to the team. But I also hate to realize that most (if not all) of these guys are now coming out of high school thinking that they have to be studs as freshmen or sophomores instead of relaxing a bit and growing up as a player. I guess that's what the lure of the NBA will do to you.

But I also doubt that he would've been much more than near the very end of the 8 or 9 man rotation next year. And, if he's not comfortable still being in more of a reserve role as just a sophomore, then I guess that it is best for both him and the team to not hang around.

Cincybruin, I agree with you. I did not see a real role or spot for him next year. They have already talked of Lee playing on the wing. you will see Holiday and Lee together with Collison on the floor. Lee's D in the Jordan all-star game excited me. I did notsee Chace getting much time and neither did he on this team. Aboya coming back is the big thing.

This incoming class is going to be real special.

I agree with both of you guys. I could not see Stanback as a major contributor next year. I have Collison, Holiday, Lee, Anderson, and Roll all ahead of him. And if Shipp and Luc come back he would be the 8th man just counting the 1,2,and 3s. And I am pretty sure Westbrook will leave, but if he comes back Stanback would probably get just as much playing time as last year. You can't really blame him for transferring because with the incoming of talented guards I would be intimidated for the role of playing time too.

Wow, I was floored when I heard this. I guess it just speaks to the talent of the incoming class. I thought Stanback along with Keefe would really step up and play a significant role next year.

Could it be that he's just pissy that he only got 5.8 min per last season? Whatever the issue it sounds like it's all ego.

Total side note and feel good story is that his mom Sarah Quick just won $25,000 by playing an online game and plans to use the money to help Chase with college tuition during the one year he has to sit out.

Chase actually found the website first – www.livethefasttrack.com – and his mom began playing.
