Also looks like they might be considering Marc Jackson.

it would be a steal to get avery johnson. he got shafted by cuban. dirk is the choke master, he can't win big and they didn't have a quality pg (Jason Kidd is not who he used to be) which you kinda need, esp. when dirk is your star. i just don't know if Kirk Hinrich is going to be the man if the Bulls can make a run in the future. he needs to play some d, maybe avery johnson can help with some team d, who knows but i just don't see how d'antoni is the man for the job.

With a good coach Kirk Hinrich will be his old self. He also had a few injuries. Look for Hinrich to put himself back in the top 10 catagory of PG this year. It is hard enough to find a solid PG, but one who plays great defense is very hard to find. The one thing I do not like about Hinrich is that he whines too much.
I still like Avery Johnson better then Mike D'Antoni. You need Defense to win in the playoffs and Avery pushes his players to play D. I would be happy with either in the long run, I just think Avery is a better fit.

ChiTownCliff,
I agree 100% on Hinrich. He will get back to his game with the RIGHT coach. And let's hope he leaves the whinning to the coach.
Any news on Pax and his (super) search? He is still dragging his feet, i mean is he waiting for someone better to come along?
He will miss the boat, mark my words.

ginney,
i hope you are wrong with that one! if he lets this one slip away... why??? that's really all i have to say. it would be such a disappointment.
i was a huge hinrich fan when he was with KU cos i love KU bball and then he ended up in chicago and it was a good thing. he's had better years, so if we can get a coach in there that will benefit his game, then by all means. i mean, he just seems so out of it lately. and everyone knows the Bulls need a little direction, not just on d it's not as if we don't have any talent

I've never liked Hinrich as our PG. I like pass first PG's and that's not him. Don't get me wrong he's a good player and I think sometimes he gets worn out because usually he has to guard the other team's best scorer and that affects how he performs on offense. But he's not quick and he doesn't run the break very well. He's had two chances to develop athletic big men. The first was Tyson Chandler and all Chandler did here was well nothing. Look at him now with a TRUE PG (Chris Paul). Tyson's almost an all-star and they know each other very well and it's a joy to watch CP3 throw him a lob. Tyrus Thomas has the same capabilities as Chandler. They both are very athletic, but I think Tyrus is more athletic. 2 years ago down the stretch Tyrus played a key role. If you watch New Orleans when Chandler sets a screen and his man hedges to CP3, then Paul will throw it towards the rim and let Chandler finish it. Why can't Hinrich learn how to throw a lob to an athletic big man. As I've noticed with Tyrus, Duhon seems to be the only one who realizes that Tyrus can get alley-oops. Actually Ben Wallace did it sometimes.
Answering the question, I think we would need a better PG for D'Antoni's system to thrive. Obviously, that wouldn't be Hinrich. If we somehow manage to get Rose, I would love to see him and D'Antoni pair up and be sick. Or maybe Baron Davis could fit in the scheme. But I'll end with this: the problem is the players we have.

Defense wins championships. Which that said I would probably lean towards Avery but would be happy with Mike as well.

..........and i hear that money may put the squeeze on any contract to be signed. My only thought on that is if that is Paxon's first choice, then he needs to tell Jerry to open up his checkbook.
If it's not Paxon's first choice, and Johnson is, then he (Jerry) will still need to shell out some cash to get him.
If the Bulls go on the cheap, then they are taking a big risk, and making a mistake IMO.
My first choice is Johnson, but the more i think about D'Antoni, the more i like him. His offensive style of pushing the ball and taking the shot in 7 seconds sounds like a transition offense. I just wonder about his defensive plan.
The Bulls need to get back to their defensive ways. If D'Antoni stresses D, then he could be a good fit.
