GM is consistently losing money hand over fist in the business world.  Amazing they can be so engrossed in NASCAR and have such a poor business model.  GM just posted a $3.3 billion dollar loss.  $3.3 BILLION DOLLARS - holy crap, I can't imagine that.

I will not be surprised to see Chevy tank out like Pontiac did...GM is a doomed company even with so much brand loyalty, they just aren't making the smart business decisions to keep solvent, let alone be able to stay in NASCAR.

My thoughts for Tony are pretty simple as well...Micheal Waltrip and Robby Gordon...need I say more?

How can a driver be an owner and take care of all the little owner details and then be able to hit the track and drive and keep the two going at the same time and actually win some races?  These other two have tried, but neither have a win either.  Robbies last win came when he punted someone out of line at Bristol I think or it was some other short track.  Michael won at Daytona and blah blah blah, but he wasn't an owner then.

An owner has to make sure he keeps sponsors going, the garage going, the drivers, and on and on.  Tony needs to keep his little empire as is and when his career is over, then he can be an owner.  Sorry, I am a Smoke fan to be honest, but I just don't have faith enough in him to be both an owner and driver.

Ford has been losing money for years and has stayed the course with NASCAR, Chevy will do the same. It was rumored back in the late 90's that FORD was doomed.  In no way will any of the US auto makers leave NASCAR without completely shutting down the whole company.

Hey Hawkeye,  Do you know what they call people from IOWA?  Idiots out walking around!  I guess your comments fit that catagory appropriately.

Tony is going back to Chevy do to loyalty.  He is an American, unlike some others out there.  He believes that!  Waltrip and his friends are Idiots for going to Toyota, look at his success since joining Toyota.

I am guessing that Hendrick Motorsports will release Casey Mears at the end of this year or even 2009 and then sign Tony Stewart to create the ultimate team.

I don't think Tony Stewart is going anywhere. I was reading an article on nascar.com and Smoke said the move to Toyotas was a move JGR had to do. I think this is Tony just blowing smoke trying to make a little more coin.

IndyFloridaGuy,

The reason Toyota didn't do good last year is because they had 3 or 4 new start up teams, they didn't have a powerhouse team like JGR.

And so far this season JGR Toyotas > Hendricks Chevys

I haven't owned a Chevy for over 40 years, but I really hope GM get their act together soon. They are too important to our economy to fold.

I think Joe Gibbs is a class guy and is a credit to Sprint Cup. I liked him with the Skins also. However, I am NOT a Tony Stewart fan. That said, Stewart can't stand the fact that people are talking about Johnson, Busch, someone besides him. I think the best thing for him to do is to start his own team. Then watch him fall off the face of Sprint Cup. Go for it, Smoke and THAT IS WHERE YOUR CAREER WILL END UP. IN SMOKE!!!

Robby Gordon has 3 wins, one at New Hampshire and 2 at road courses.  Granted they were all captured while driving for Richard Childress.

Neither Robby Gordon or Michael Waltrip have the talent Tony Stewart does, and from what I have seen he probably would not start his own team, but rather buy into someone else's.  There is no doubt in my mind Tony Stewart could win races even in a Hass-CNC car.   Do I think its the right decision?  Probably not.

For all the people who think he wants to leave because he is now playing second fiddle to Kyle Busch, why would he consider going to Hendrick and potentially be the 3rd or 4th driver, and certainly not the most popular.

This is a case of Smoke being Smoke.  He will be back with JGR for a long time to come.  When he finally hangs up his helmet, then we may see him buy into ownership or start his own.

Hey Hawkeye,  Do you know what they call people from IOWA?  Idiots out walking around!  I guess your comments fit that catagory appropriately.

Huh, guess I prefer INTELLIGENCE out walking around...really IndyFLinfant, can't you come up with anything original?  Like putting an ND helmet on a portrait of Jesus...key is Jesus grew up in Israel, he wouldn't have been blonde pal, and if you really think Jesus cares on whit about sports, you really missed his message.

In any case, my point is that our AMERICAN car makers (check out where the parts and such are from though, are cars that are built in America with almost all foreign parts still American cars?  Or are they American just because the headquarters of the company are here in America?) are consistently losing money and are at risk of going under let alone fielding engines and the like for NASCAR.

I appreciate the information that Ford was at risk before and that company is also close to being an insolvent one.  I have to agree with the assessment that the only way they will get out of the sport is to go completely under.

Excuse me for pointing out that we need our American companies to start producing to make their businesses better so they can stay in the sport.  American or not, Tony right now is under contract at JGR and will drive whatever cars Gibbs field for the races.  It has nothing to do with if he is an American or not.

I don't recall condoning Toyota in there, personally I like having it all the quote unquote American car makers, but really more Toyotas are made in America now so they do provide a lot of jobs and could be considered American per se, but not if you say the HQ has to be here in America.
