The injury plagued April is coming to an end.  Can you believe the amount of players who have missed games due to injury.  Not to mention, it has been a horrible month for Hughes, Cano, Kennedy, & Giambi.

We are lucky that the Sox have struggled and the teams to catch are the Rays & O's (only positive thing of the month).

Here's to a healthy May, may our bats be big and and the arms come around.

By, the way, nice to see our Wang come out strong!

thankfully, april means little in the greater scheme of things.  As long as you make the playoffs and finish strong, you'll have as good a chance as any in October.

On a side note, I find it pretty funny that ESPN and all the other media outlets have done nothing but criticize the Yankees for their start and have done nothing but praise the Red Sox, when the teams have been separated by 1-2 games all month.  But the Yankees are terrible and the Red Sox are wonderful according to the media.

They praise the Sox because they are a  better team and have alot of room/possibility of playing much better whereas the Yankees are playing up to their capabilities now. Kennedy,Hughes, and Mussina will absolutely kill u guys this yr, and even moreso your bullpen as they are averaging 4 innings per start.  It is going to be a long futile yr for you guys as fans but you should of seen it coming as did all the analyst

who's to say the Yankees are playing to their ability and the Red Sox not?  How can you draw such an all-encompassing conclusion as early as April.  The real reason, as pointed out in another thred here, is because of ESPN's anti-Yankee tendencies and the way in which other media outlets follow them.  The media loves the Red Sox and hates the Yankees, just like they love the Patriots and hate the Giants, love the Celtics and hate the Knicks, you sensing a trend here?

Carddawg, this is the time where the Red Sox are supposed to be separating themselves from the Yankees. Boston drops off in the second half while the Yankees are the best  post-all star break team in the MLB and if you honestly think that Hughes and Kennedy will pitch or be allowed to pitch a 9 ERA, you're obviously dreaming. The Yankees do have people to replace them, however since we're only a few games out, it's in their best interest to let the rookies get the bumps out of their system. Despite the fact they lost tonight, they have been playing really well, as opposed to Boston who couldn't score a run against the Rays. At least we have our rookies and injuries as an excuse, what's theirs? They don't have Curt Schilling?? Please.

As a Yankee fan, I'm not worried about this April. The Yankees had a better April this year than last year, and if most of our main stars didn't miss significant time I think the record would be a little bit different. Also, not having Posada for a better part of the month hasn't affected the team. Jose Molina has proven to be a better than capable backup, but his career high for games in a season is 76, so if Posada is out for a while Molina's durability can come into question.

A word on Moose: I think he had a great April. We all know this guy isn't going to be a dominant pitcher. However, save for the start against the BoSox in Boston, he's pitched relatively well so far this season. His outings are the type that the Yanks are looking for. He's kept them in games and has pitched some quality innings.

I look for the rookies to really turn it around in May. Both Kennedy and Hughes have been struggling, but they haven't been able to turn a corner. Kennedy was the only one to have a real quality start in April (against the Rays, when he went 7 innings and pitched a good game.) These guys need to get the fire in them and start pitching well. I think we all realized there would be growing pains, and this is most likely one of those painful times.

At worst, the team is 1 game under .500 at the end of the month. Not too bad for an injury depleted team depending on rookies.

Yeah, who's this clown saying that the Yankees arre playing to their ability? Last I checked Robinson Cano is better then the .155 he's batting now, Jason Giambi is better then the .171 he's batting, and half of the team has been hurt, including our two biggest right handed batters. This lineup led the league in almost every offensive category last year. They are obviously not playnig to their ability. So, the fact that they are .500 with all of this, and a brutal schedule (most road games for a MLB team EVER in April), I'd say that they're pretty good.

And, despite the fact that they're kids, most intelligent people know that Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are better then what they've shown so far. We know that they're not going to be great, but they are definitely better then what they have shown in April.

There is plenty room for improvement, and it's just a matter of time.

Go Yankees!
