You know, this Canada bashing is getting ridiculous. I know I'm going to get painted as the bad guy for this, because how dare I defend my country, but here goes....
Fans of any team, remember, it's just a game, no need to make the insults "national" the Montreal Canadiens do not represent all of Canada any more than the Philadelphia Flyers represent all of the USA.
I understand that the idiots that are bashing Canada are not representative of the entire U.S. population. To those classy, intelligent fans, thanks for the debates/arguments that are posted here. A little rivalry never hurt anybody. To those that want to criticize my country (and have probably never been here) shut up, your opinion of Canada means absolutely nothing. If we didn't know any better, all you'd be doing is making "Americans" look bad which is horrible, because they deserve better.
If you want to get into a Canada vs. America fight, hockey is probably a bad forum for it. Canadian players do not stop being Canadian citizens because they play in the USA. So when you insult Canadians, you are also insulting 60% of your current Flyers roster. If your aim is only at French Canadians, then there are just as many of them on your squad as American players (3).
Booing the national anthem is classless, regardless of what side of the border it happens on (and it DOES happen on both sides). Just because some idiots do it, realize there are just as many people in that crowd that are offended by the idiots doing the booing. In fact, the people that boo the anthems probably don't realize how they might be hurting their own team. Do you think that Higgins, Komisarek, Smolinski, and Boullion feel motivated to perform for the Habs when the crowd boos their home country? In fact, I think that's the reason why San Jose lost to Edmonton 2 years ago, because Thornton was invisible that series.
Anyways....Let's talk HOCKEY!
