"The need to know." Those words have changed our world more than most people can imagine. Why we, as a society, have a "need" to know about Kenton Keith getting arrested in a strip club parking lot for public intoxication, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, etc. as soon as it happens is beyond me. Here's my problem with this. The first story emerges and it sounds like Kenton Keith is acting like the typical problem making professional athlete that we've all grown to hate. The very next day, the criminal tresspass charge is reduced to a misdemeanor and all other charges are dropped. Keith's reputation has been given a slight ding and the media moves on. Those people who heard of the charges being reduced know that he probably didn't really do anything worth mentioning and those that didn't see the update go on thinking the worst about a guy who didn't really do anything. If Kenton Keith is charged with murder, I want to know about it as soon as possible. By as soon as possible I mean, as soon as the details about the charges and the details of the case are clear enough and current enough to represent a fair assesment of the situation. If by the next day, the charges are dropped because it was a case of mistaken identity or whatever, then it was too soon. My point is, I'm sick of hearing about totally irrelevant things just to find out that they're even more irrelevant the next day. Unless someone's really up to something nasty, I wish the media would take the time to see what's going to happen with a story and see if it pans out. I frankly don't give a damn if Kenton Keith is charged with misdemeanor tresspass. I don't care that he was at a strip club. I don't care if he wears lady's underwear. As long as he plays hard and does what he's supposed to do on the field that's all any of us should ask for. If a guy is great off the field and does charitable work and sets up foundations and visits orphans, that's great, but it's not required. He's a football player and the only reason why we know about him is because of that fact. This "need to know" that we have developed has led to the shrinking of the world, the idiotizing (new word) of America by reality tv, and the complete destruction of the wall that SHOULD exist between celebrities, athletes and politicians and us, the normal, non-public personalities. Now, we (the USA) are all up in the entire planet's business and they're up in ours, our young people are living their lives based on The Hills and all we care about our politicians is what church they go to and how they feel about abortion. I wish we could stay out of the world's business unless it's absolutely necessary. I wish people still respected quality writting and acting. And I wish that I didn't have to hear about what President So and So is doing to some lady in his spare time as long as he's doing a good job runnning our country, WHO CARES!? And if you do care, you're one of the main reasons why our country is so screwed up right now! But what do I know, I'm crazy.
