The whole "they booed Santana" thing was a little exaggerated. On TV at least, it didn't sound like they were giving him anywhere near the Mel Rojas treatment, the way the media and fans of other teams have made it sound. But they shouldn't of booed him, he just got caught in the crossfire of the angst from last year I think.
As far as booing the other players though, and Delgado in particular, I can't say it bothers me. They were up 7 games with 17 left to play last year and they have the 3rd highest payroll in MLB. There should be high expectations, and rightly or wrongly Delgado has come to symbolize a lot of what went wrong that year. The guy makes $15 million a year and fell off the face of the earth last season. At least Reyes is still young and making relatively little in baseball terms.
But what really bothers me about all of them is the attitude they've had. Its like they can't possibly understand why the fans are upset with them. The answer is simple: THEY WERE UP 7 FRIGGIN GAMES WITH 17 TO PLAY AND MISSED THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR!!! And then (and granted, this isn't directly the players' fault) the organization has the nerve to hike ticket prices 20%. As far as I'm concerned, every player on that team who was on the roster last year should have to rotate picking a section in the stands before every home game and just walk through apologizing to random fans, and Delgado should get the entire upper deck. If he doesn't want to get booed, then he can go take a $10 million paycut this offseason when his contract is up and go play for St. Louis or Chicago or one of these places where no one ever gets booed and be happy.
