Rutgers is a nothing school. academically and sports wise.
if you ask a college football fan to name 5 schools they would like to see a football game at... you may get answers like... Penn State 100k plus Beaver stadium, USC at the Rose Bowl, Michigan's big house, the Shoe at Ohio St, Notre Dame and touchdown Jesus, Tennessee's Neiland stadium.......... i have never heard someone say... " man , i sure would love to someday catch a game at Rutgers. i heard the stadium and tailgates are incredible- what a college football venue"
by the way ND is the 16th ranked top academic school in the US according to consumer reports, better than half of the Ivy league schools. Rutgers is 89th. side note, ND has won the top Grad rates and athlete GPA award 6 of last 9 years for all sports.
if you break it down in "art" terms... ND is a Picaso, Rutgers is a 4- year old finger painting.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers' football team ranks No. 3 in the nation in the Academic Progress Rate according to the latest figures released by the NCAA on Tuesday.
Rutgers was one of only six Football Bowl Subdivision programs to be ranked in the top 10 percent of APR scores. It is the lone state university on the list and the only institution to have its football team ranked in the top 10 percent of the APR and to have won a bowl game last season.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

The top five Football Bowl Subdivision schools in terms of APR are Stanford (986), Navy (979), Rutgers (977), Duke (977) and Air Force (976). For the second consecutive year, Rutgers football has the best APR mark of any state university in the nation.
"We are proud of our players continued commitment to be the best they can be both on the field and off," coach Greg Schiano said. "The latest Academic Progress Rate scores, which represent a four-year average, are especially encouraging when you consider how challenging Rutgers is academically."
Athletic director Robert E. Mulcahy said the report reflects the hard work of student-athletes, coaches and support staff.
"I've always believed that at a great university there's no reason that academics and athletics can't coexist and be mutually beneficial," Mulcahy said.

Rutgers is not Notre Dame, I'll grant you that, but it's a well-respected school academically.

I know of about 56,000 people that would love to catch a game at Rutgers, and that's why our respective schools won't be playing each other.
I see your point that the schools aren't really comparable. We need to swallow our Rutgers pride, and admit that as a university (both athletically, and academically) ND is better.
But once you get past beating down our football history, and making fun of our academics, you'll see that this isn't about our AD thinking we're as good as ND. It's about our AD thinking we're good enough where we don't need to change venues, and make it 10 times more difficult for the students to get to the the game. You guys are still the most talked about program in CFB, but we're no longer the 119th talked about program.
Is it a good decision? I think a good 80-90% of Rutgers fans support the decision, and we've received a lot of support from most of the other BE schools. Time will tell, but the initial reaction was quite positive. Your AD caught some unnecessary flak for making the proposal, but you guys do have a reputation. I personally saw nothing wrong with him asking.

Quite impressive. You should've ended it here.
if you break it down in "art" terms... ND is a Picaso, Rutgers is a 4- year old finger painting.
jagfan, you care to teach your fellow ND co-ed/alum here how to spell Picaso?
It's spelled Picasso guys. I actually agree with everything you say Goru. I personally think Rutgers made a mistake by saying no, but it's open to debate and nobody's mind is going to be changed. Here's an interesting fact for you guys. Notre Dame actually tried to get Boston College to change the venue of the game next year. Boston College asked ND if they could change the time of the game for next year, and ND said they would only do it if the game was changed to being played at Gillette Stadium. So everybody's complaining that ND will play at BC without asking to move to a bigger stadium, but in fact they did this year. BC said no, and the game time remains the same. People can call ND arrogant, but they are simply looking out for what is best for ND.
Bottom line. There was nothing wrong with ND asking. And nothing wrong with Rutgers saying no. This all would have been no big deal except that your AD made it a big deal with the stupid 10 minute comment. It may be and is true but it wasn't something that had to be said by a man who runs a storied program that should be above something like that.
ND is great for CFB. Rutgers finally playing real football is also good for CFB. Everyone is caught up on the size of the Meadowlands and the gate. But do you really think the millions watching on TV would rather see the game there rather then at Rutgers stadium? Sitting at home watching, you would love to see your guys walking into our little stadium. Makes for a much better story.
remember when we were talking abo Rutgers not being able to keep top recruits in state....
Verona, N.J., linebacker Carlo Calabrese made his college decision on a very special day for he and his family. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker chose his mother's birthday, May 21st, to verbally commit to Notre Dame over offers from Rutgers, Boston College, Florida and others.
Rutgers is a poopdick school. why would anyone good ever go there?
