In all these discussions, I have only heard one person bring Jacobson's name up.  I know we will have Jordan Hill and Jeff Withey manning the paint but what about AJ?  If all three of these guys pan out, we could be a serious threat, not just for the Pac-10 but for the whole thing.  Think about the makeup of the U of Florida national championship teams.  They had Horford and Noah starting but they also had an equally good big man coming off the bench in Chris Richard.  If Budinger comes back, he could be our Corey Brewer.  And Jennings is probably even better than Green.  And we'll have Wise, Onobun, Negedu, Johnson, and Horne to throw in there too.  This team is absolutely loaded.  It's just a question of whether or not all these young guys can come together and mature in time to make a run at it.  Because, unlike those UF teams, we all know some of our guys are not going to stay beyond this year.

Ya I brought him up...He will add depth... the question is, how has he progressed?  He was Redshirted last year and I heard he needed to put on weigth and strength... anyone have any inside info on this...The thing we lack that the Gator teams had was experience and leadership.  WHo are our seniors this year?  Yeah, I know... Unless Chase comes back it's going to be Hill and Wise and they'll be Juniors...

No doubt there's a lot of talent on this team for next year, even if Chase goes. It is young talent, though, that will have to grow up in a hurry. That's one of the reasons Lute likes to play a tough schedule. By the end of the year there are no freshmen anymore. They've all been battle hardened. Remember the 97 team was led by a lot of young guys. They took their lumps during the year but got hot at the right time and beat three No. 1 seeds. Hasn't been done by anyone else.

My concern with Alex Jacobsen, is if they pulled Zane Johnson out of his redshirt but not him... why? Especially when we could've used even a serviceable center to back up Hill down low. This tells me what thing: he's worse than Walters was. I'm not saying he is, I haven't seen the kid play. Just know he's long and scrawney. Just a mystery at this point.

I've seen Jacobson play and can tell you that you shouldn't waste your time getting hopes up for him making an impacting contribution to the team anytime soon -- if ever. He's got size, but he's also got slow feet and average hands. He's not a force down low by any means. If Arizona runs next year, he might only see the court during garbage time. Chances are that the frontcourt rotation will consist of Hill, Withey, Onobun and Negedu. And as much as I wish Budinger could be Corey Brewer for Arizona, they are two different players. Brewer excels on the defensive end of the court while Budinger does it on the other end. Both can mature what they are deficient in, but as of yet they haven't.

Jacobson is a project. He's more of a project that Kirk Walters was. I think that says it all.

Even if (when) Chase does they'll all still be juniors.  Chase was only a soph this year.

Ding ding ding!  Give naterb a prize.  Two ways I could answer this: 1) KO's an idiot and doesn't know a red shirt from a purple one; 2) you're absolutely right and Jacobsen would've made Walters look good on the court.  Ok, that's cheating because #1's obviously true already (I'm still utterly befuddled why KO burned Z's redshirt only to have him average 5 minutes in 15 games), but I think #2 is as well, as you and others have stated.  My hope is that some time around fall 2009, Jacobsen is Arizona's James Keefe and making an impact.

couple things... 1. that was my fear the Jacobsen was going to be another Walters.  Not to say Kirk didn't have to go through some hard times with mono and such. 2. Jacobsen and Keefe isn't the right comparison, Keefe was a Mcdonald's all american I believe...3. Jacobsen has to at least be decent, he was a 4 star recruit, but then again, I think Walters Might have been a 5 star recruit in some projections...
