The Mavs may win tonight, but they will lose the series to the Hornets...Jason Kidd isn't the same player he was 5+ years years ago.
This move reminds me of the Shaq move, which was also a desperate mistake as the Spurs will go on to beat the Suns in 5-6 games.

The only way what you are saying is valid would be if you truly believe that Devin Harris would change the balance and allow the Mavs to win the series. Otherwise, the trade had no effect. Same thing with the Suns. You must believe that if Marion was still on the Suns instread of Shaq, the Suns would be on the verge of eliminating the Spurs.
As far as the Mavs are concerned, I don't think the trade made them better to the degree it needed to for them to win a title this year. I do believe the roster has more talent on it today than it did the day before the trade, but I don't think the increase in talent is enough to get the job done. Does that make it a bad trade? Only if Harris triples his talent and becomes one of the top point guards in the league. But it isn't like the Mavs can't recover from it if after Kidd is gone. They let Nash walk before he won his 2 MVP's and Nash has never played in the NBA finals. Dirk and Company have.

The thing that Devin Harris could do was run, play defense, drive to the basket, and make open jump shots. None of which Jason Kidd is capable of doing anymore. I have never seen a player wide open and continue to refuse to take shots. I kept hearing how Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard would benefit greatly after getting Kidd and I haven't even seen that. The Dallas offense is still basically Dirk gtting the ball facing up and shooting a jumper so what's the difference between Kidd and Harris running it. It was better when Harris was doing it because there were more scoring options.

They have to address the shooting guard position in the off season. Stack is done, Terry is too small. Why is Avery using JJ Barrea instead of Tyrone Lue and not allowing the Mavs to run? They need more scorers.

Let's face it, trading for Kidd was a mistake...DUH!!!
Get your head out of Cubans butt Mavs Man. Harris would change the balance and allow the Mavs to when the series. Harris provided the energy that the Mavs dont have anymore. Harris provided the speed that the Mavs dont have anymore and Harris provided quality defense at the guard spot that the mavs dont have anymore. and not to mention Diop. Diop provided a quality backup for Damp and sometimes Damp was a quality backup for Diop. The Mavericks need a guard with speed and another big man. We had those before the trade.
Mark Cuban is an idiot and he should take responsiblity for screwing this team up. Next year when the Nets make the playoffs and the Mavs barely make it in or barely miss it, maybe you will see the mistakes Cuban has made.

So let me get this straight Mavsman you think getting to the NBA Finals and losing 4 straight is a big accomplishment.Typical Mavs fan whole bunch of bark and no bite you and all your '"FANS' sure talk a lot a lot of crap for a team that chokes in the playoffs every year. As for the Devin Harris for Jason Skid trade all Spurs fans did a toast to Mark Cuban for being so stupid to make this trade. Devin created matchup problems for Tony Parker with his speed. As for Jason Skid the Spurs coyote could guard him. Another choke job by the Mavs and Dirk Noringski.

Harris is already a better player than Kidd at this point in his career. You're also not mentioning the draft picks.
Marion is a much better player at this point than Shaq.
Mavs/Suns are done because of these foolish moves.
Anything else?

harris was the truth. he was a huge part of our offense as far as getting to the basket and he would have guarded CP3 much better

AND diop was better than damps crusty a$$. damp is out there tripping all over himself trying to guard David West on the pertimeter. diop was quick and athletic for us. damp is so off-balance and has the worst hands of anyone i've ever seen.
cuban really gambled and missed.

Your an idiot trading for kid was a huge mistake harris is a lot better and may not have made a difference this year but will in the future but we all know that kidd won't help us cuz he is old and not even close to what he used to be and trust me on this harris will be one of the premiere point guards in the league in a couple of years.

Harris didn't do crap for us in the post season and we would still be down 3-1 with him. Hell we might be watching the post season if we keep him. He got owned last year and the year before in the finals. When you loss in the 1st round and loss 4 in a row in the finals you have to make a move. Maybe GS should make some moves instead of telling us what a mistake it was. As for shaq it didn't make sense but they need to beat Duncan. They all look bad now but what are you going to do when you continue to loss in the post season, making moves is the only answer. Kidd was a all-star and ran the show for the olympic team as well. Lebron wanted him because he is suppose to make everybody better. We can't help the howard sucks and smokes to much dope or that stack looks 100 years old or that damp can move or catch the ball. That isn't Kidds fault, Harris didn't make anybody better. I have to blame Avery for not adjusting to want the team needs to do and thats get to the line and run as fast as they can up and down, that is kidds style not half court. Blame Avery and Howard and damp and stack not Kidd. This team was going nowhere and I would much rather try then be like Den or GS who stayed with what they had and continued to suck.

The only way what you are saying is valid would be if you truly believe that Devin Harris would change the balance and allow the Mavs to win the series.
I keep hearing this argument from fellow Mavs fans and Kidd apologists, and it makes no sense. Yes, if we had made a straight-up, one-for-one trade--Harris for Kidd--this argument would be close to making sense. It still doesn't factor in that Harris was cost-controlled and only looks to get better for the next three years, while Kidd makes $20 million a year and has, at best, a year left in the tank. But it's close to making sense.
But the fact of the matter is that we didn't make a one-for-one trade for Kidd. We traded away Harris, a good defensive big man in Diop (and if you don't think the ability to defend Chandler and West would make a difference in this series, you haven't been watching the same games that I have), and our first-round draft picks for the next two years. Essentially, we gambled away the next three or four years for one chance at a championship. The only way that the Kidd trade would be a good move is if the Mavs went deep into the playoffs, which now looks extremely unlikely.
So even if you believe that Kidd is better than Harris right now (and I personally think it's a wash), that doesn't mean that the trade wasn't a horrific mistake that will dog Dallas basketball for the next half-decade.
