I want to start by saying: Thank you and congratulations Caps on a season that surpassed all expectations!
Next I want to talk about just how bright our future is. It has been a long time, 10 years to be exact, since this team was one of the elite ones of the league. Though we did not make it out of the 1st round, going all the way to game 7 has given our countless youngsters the confidence they need to come back next year and do even better. George McPhee has created a hell of a team, very balenced with just the right amount of blossoming talent with veterans to emotionally lead them. Remember Caps fans, we have one of the youngest teams in the league and because our 5 of our 7 or so Stars (OV, Semin, Backstrom, Green and Laich) are all under 25 we can expect great things from this team for years to come.
This is a message specifically for George McPhee: Please do what you must to resign Cristobal Huet. We need a great goalie to support us until we develope a younger man. This is the key to continuing our momentum into next year.
Future's looking bright, hopefully the Caps board will stay alive over the off season and people don't forget about how great the last 3 or 4 months were when the Skins season gets going.
Great young team, with a good leader at helm, hopefully they can ride the momentum into next season. Also, we got some good budding rivalries going too. The Hurricanes, the Penguins, the Flyers, I would say the Lightning, but meh... I think we've all moved on since the disaster in 2003. Here's to hoping the next twelve years of Ovie's contract are as good, if not better than this one.
im not gonna lie after the fiasco of the early part of the decade with jagr and lang and the lame playoff exits to tampa bay and pittsburgh, i thought there would be no hope. but this season changed all that. DC is a hockey town again. in school im likely to see as many ovechkin jersies as i am portis or moss jersies. as far as im concerned its great for the city. this city has a bonafide superstar to call its own, one that matches the insanity and drive as the people of this city
Thanks Caps! Your efforts brought a lot of attention to the sport in the DC Metro area and I hope next season is just as exciting as this one was. Congrats again!
I would have to agree. Thanks Caps for the remarkable turn around and the strong play in the playoffs !!! Damn those Flyers !!! I find myself rooting for the "Hated" Flyers just so I can say That we lost to the Stanley Cup Champions..That hurts !!! With the strong play at the end of the season, It should make for a better start for next year. It also shows a young team that EVERY game counts. I wont use the term "rebuilding", I like the term "Learning Year "...I guess I will have to retire my Rod Langway jersey and pick up a more current player's jersey for next year !!
Absolutely! THANK YOU CAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although the playoff run didn't go as far as we'd all have liked, it was an amazing ride to be a part of, and it was NHL history. There was so much excitement down the stretch, and to not just make the playoffs, but to bag a division title was icing on the cake. Even the series against the Flyers was full of drama and excitement, it had everything you could want--except a Capitals win of course!
I have to agree with a lot of thoughts on this thread. The winning ways and making the playoffs really brought fans in and woke DC up to hockey. I talso hink the Capitals were better than anyone expected. They gave us a good season, and a very exciting playoff series, although it did not end as hoped for. I think if you went back to the start of the season, and said the Caps would take it to OT in game seven of the first round, you would have not been treated well by many hockey fans. I really like this team, these players and this ownership. I hope that is a recipe for a great year next season.
